Robert Schumann náleží již k druhé generaci romantiků a patří k největším tvůrcům romantické klavírní literatury. Vychází z dědictví starší generace, především Schuberta a Webera. Sám Schumann však ovlivnil širokou škálu skladatelů. Jeho hudba je charakteristická svou obrovskou hudební fantazií, která vychází z jeho nitra a především z poezie, kterou tolik miloval. Robert Schumann belongs to the second generation of Romanticists and he is one of the greatest authors of Romantic piano literature. He is inspired by the legacy of the first generation, especially by Schubert and Weber. But Schumann himself has influenced a great many composers.
