Christine Korsgaard`s Social constructivism

Abstract:

Cílem této práce je představit a kriticky zhodnotit etickou teorii sociálního konstruktivismu Christine Korsgaardové, která dále rozvíjí myšlenky Immanuela Kanta. Postupně explikujeme jednotlivé součásti teorie, jako je teorie hodnoty, zdroje morálních pravd, průběh konstrukce morálních činů, objektivita morality a charakter morálního aktéra. Prověřovat budeme konzistenci a koherenci teorie. Přestože je kantovská etika založena idealisticky, nebojí se Korsgaardová takovým přístupem oponovat empirickým morálním teoriím. Autorčin projekt spojuje několik filozofických témat, jež přispívají k celkovému obrazu teorie. Patří sem teorie jednání, osobní identity či sebekonstituce. Všechny tyto součásti představíme v souvislostech celé teorie.

Abstract:

The goal of this work is to introduce and critically evaluate Christine Korsgaard’s ethical theory of social constructivism, which further develops the thoughts of Immanuel Kant. We will gradually explicate individual parts of the theory, such as theory of value, the sources of moral truths, the process of construction of moral actions, the objectivity of morality and the character of moral agent. We will look into the consistency and coherency of the theory. Although the Kantian ethics is based on idealistic theory, Korsgaard boldly uses this position to stand as the opposition to the empirical moral theories. The project of the author joins the set of the philosophical themes which contributes to the compactness and wholeness of the theory. The set consists of the theory of agency, theory of personal identity and self-constitution. We will put these parts forward to place them into the context of the whole theory.
