Motivation for formal education of Generation X representatives studying at the University of Ostrava

Abstract:

Předmětem této bakalářské práce je motivace k formálnímu vzdělávání zástupců Generace X studujících na Ostravské univerzitě. Daná práce má teoreticko-empirický charakter. Teoretická část této práce má dvě kapitoly. Ty jsou věnovány sociálním, edukačním a psychologickým východiskům daného tématu. Práce představuje současnou globalizovanou a postmoralistní společnost a koncept celoživotního vzdělávání i motivy a bariéry, které doprovázejí další vzdělávání dospělých. Druhá kapitola této práce se věnuje sociologickým a demografickým východiskům daného tématu. Druhá kapitola této práce nabídne obecné vymezení daného pojmu, popíše specifika jednotlivých generací a svou pozornost zaměří na takzvanou generaci X. Empirická část této práce je věnována průzkumu, který realizovala autorka této práce při její přípravě. Obecným cílem daného průzkumu je nahlédnout na dílčí aspekty formálního vzdělávání zástupců generace X. Daný průzkum má integrovaný design. Průzkumná data pro kvantitativní fázi průzkumu byla získána dotazníkem vlastní konstrukce, průzkumná data pro kvalitativní fázi průzkumu byla zajištěna metodou focus group a metodou životního příběhu. Všechna kvantitativní průzkumná data byla analyzovaná na úrovni absolutních a relativních četností, data vážící se k průzkumným cílům byla zpracována univariační analýzou a hypotézy formulované pro daný průzkum byly validovány. Kvalitativně orientovaná průzkumná data byla podrobena tematické analýze a byla představena narativním způsobem. Data z tohoto průzkumu byla komparována s daty odborníků v dané edukační oblasti.

Abstract:

The subject of this bachelor thesis is Motivation for formal education of representatives of the Generation X students at the University of Ostrava. The work has a theoretical-empirical character. The theoretical part of this work has two chapters. These are devoted to the social, educational and psychological background of the topic. The work presents the current globalized and post-moralist society and the concept of lifelong learning as well as the motives and barriers that accompany further adult education. The second chapter of this work deals with the sociological and demographic background of the topic. The second chapter of this work offers a general definition of the term, describes the specifics of each generation and focuses on the so-called Generation X. The empirical part of this work is devoted to a survey carried out by the author of this work during its preparation. The general aim of the survey is to look at the partial aspects of formal education of Generation X representatives. The survey has an integrated design. The survey data for the quantitative phase of the survey were obtained by a questionnaire of our own design, the survey data for the qualitative phase of the survey were provided by the focus group method and the life story method. All quantitative survey data were analyzed at the level of absolute and relative frequencies, data related to the survey objectives were processed by univariate analysis, and the hypotheses formulated for the survey were validated. Qualitatively oriented survey data were subjected to thematic analysis and presented in a narrative manner. The data from this survey were compared with data from experts in the field of education.
