Comparison of different methods of nutrition, feeding and housing technology for colostral and dairy calves

Abstract:

Diplomové práce se zabývá technologií ustájení a krmení telat do odstavu. V praktické části je porovnáváno skupinové a individuální ustájení telat v období mléčné a startérové výživy. Experiment byl realizován s jalovičkami Holštýnského skotu. Do experimentu bylo zařazeno celkem 25 telat. Telata byla krmena do 3. dne mlezivem a od 4. dne mléčnou krmnou směsí. Dále měla k dispozici startérovou krmnou směs. Všechna telata byla od narození ustájena ve venkovních individuálních boxech. Ve 14 dnech věku byla vytvořena pokusná skupina 8 telat, která byla převedena do skupinového ustájení, kde byla až do 90. dne věku. Ostatní telata (n = 17) tvořila nadále kontrolní skupinu a byla ustájena individuálně do věku 56 dnů. Poté byla převedena do skupinového ustájení, kde byla do 90. dne. U telat byla sledována živá hmotnost, spotřeba startérové směsi, zdravotní stav a ekonomika odchovu. Telata pokusné skupiny dosahovala na konci sledovaného období statisticky průkazně vyšší (p <0,05) průměrné živé hmotnosti (113,87 ± 9,4 kg) než telata skupiny kontrolní, jejichž průměrná živá hmotnost byla 95,93 ± 14,54 kg. Průkazné (p <0,05) byly i rozdíly mezi průměrnými denními přírůstky telat (0,84 ± 0,07 kg u skupiny pokusné a 0,65 ± 0,16 kg u skupiny kontrolní). V experimentu nebyly zjištěny zásadní rozdíly ve spotřebě startérových směsí ani ve zdraví telat. Zásadní rozdíl byl ale v ekonomice odchovu, kdy odchov telat ustájených většinu sledovaného období skupinově představoval mnohem menší náklady na kg přírůstku živé hmotnosti. Na základě výsledků experimentu můžeme konstatovat, že včasnější odchov telat ve skupinovém ustájení měl pozitivní efekt na jejich růst, resp. přírůstky i ekonomiku odchovu ve sledovaném období.

Abstract:

The thesis focuses on the technology of housing and feeding calves until weaning. The practical part compares group and individual housing of calves in the period of milk and starter nutrition. The experiment was carried out with Holstein heifers. A total of 25 calves were included in the experiment. The calves were fed with colostrum until day 3 and with a milk feed mixture from day 4. In addition, they were provided with starter feed. All calves were housed in individual outdoor boxes from birth. At 14 days of age, an experimental group of 8 calves was formed and transferred to group housing, where they remained until day 90 of age. The remaining calves (n = 17) continued to form the control group and were housed individually until 56 days of age. They were then transferred to group housing where they remained until day 90. Calves were monitored for live weight, consumption of starter mix, health status and rearing economics. At the end of the observation period, the calves of the experimental group achieved a statistically significantly higher (p <0.05) average live weight (113.87 ± 9.4 kg) than the calves of the control group, whose average live weight was 95.93 ± 14.54 kg. There were also significant (p <0.05) differences between the average daily gains of calves (0.84 ± 0.07 kg in the experimental group and 0.65 ± 0.16 kg in the control group). There were no significant differences in starter mixture consumption or calf health in the experiment. However, there was a major difference in rearing economics, with calves reared in groups for most of the study period incurring much lower costs per kg of liveweight gain. On the basis of the results of the experiment, we can conclude that earlier rearing of calves in group housing had a positive effect on their growth or gain and rearing economics during the observed period.
