Fight against corruption on the international stage: A case study of the FIFA scandal

Abstract:

Práce se věnuje problematice boje proti korupci a jejímu vlivu na fungování mezinárodní fotbalové organizace FIFA. Cílem práce je identifikovat slabá místa v řízení organizace, která vedla k systematickému uplácení a podvodům. Na začátku se práce zabývá obecně korupcí, příčinami a důsledky vzniku korupce a jejímu dělení. Dále analyzuje mezinárodní snahy k potlačení korupce. Ve třetí kapitole se věnuje výskytu korupce ve sportu. V praktické kapitole se snaží odhalit příčiny korupce v mezinárodní organizaci FIFA. Teoretická část využívá metod hloubkové analýzy, transkripce a v některých případech také komparaci. Čerpá z odborný článků, knih, dále z dokumentů a zákonů. Praktická část je zpracovaná formou případové studie a vychází zejména z novinových článků. Práce dochází k závěru, že korupce byla způsobená systémovými chybami, které byly po odhalení skandálu z větší části napraveny.

Abstract:

The thesis deals with the issue of the fight against corruption and its impact on the functioning of the international football organization FIFA. The aim of this work is to identify weaknesses in the management of the organization that led to systematic bribery and fraud. In the beginning, the work deals with corruption in general, the causes and consequences of corruption, and its division. It further analyzes international efforts to combat corruption. The third chapter deals with the occurrence of corruption in sports. The last part tries to reveal the causes of corruption in the international organization FIFA. The theoretical part uses methods of in-depth analysis, transcription, and in some cases also comparison. It draws on professional articles, books, documents, and laws. The practical part is processed in the form of a case study and is based mainly on newspaper articles. The conclusion is that corruption was caused by systemic errors, which were largely corrected after the scandal was discovered.
