The problem of infertility as viewed by women

Abstract:

Cíl: Cílem výzkumu byla analýza subjektivního vnímání života žen neschopných přirozeně otěhotnět a vliv této skutečnosti na partnerský život. . Metodika: metodou záměrného výběru, metodou sněhové koule byl vybrán soubor 8 žen, ve věku od 30 do 47 let. Participantky mají vlastní zkušenost s neplodností, trpí diagnózou sterilita nebo nemohou déle jak 2 roky otěhotnět. Výzkum byl koncipován jako kvalitativní studie. Data byla získávána formou polostrukturovaného rozhovoru s participantkami výběrového souboru. Výsledky: Na základě analýzy dat byly stanoveny kategorie a podkategorie: 1. Vnímání a prožívání neplodnosti (podkategorie Vnímání budoucnosti před snahou otěhotnět, První obavy, Alternativní způsoby léčby neplodnosti, Vyšetření a diagnóza) 2. Prožívání léčby (podkategorie Začátek léčby, Život během léčby, Sociální vazby, Nejtěžší okamžik, Rozhodnutí o ukončení léčby) 3. Prožívání neplodnosti v partnerském vztahu (podkategorie Podpora partnera během léčby, Vliv neplodnosti na partnerský život, Bezdětnost a osvojení) Na základě analýzy rozhovorů bylo zjištěno, že prožívání neplodnosti žen je úměrné způsobu sdělení diagnózy a poskytnutí následných možných řešení. Nejtěžším okamžikem pro ženy během léčby je vyčkávání na těhotenský tes a následné zklamání z neúspěchu a velmi náročné pro zachování partnerského vztahu se jeví regulace pohlavního styku partnerů lékařem. Závěr: Vzhledem k psychickému stavu žen léčících svou neplodnost by měla být ženám vždy zároveň s léčbou, nabídnuta i pomoc odborníka čili psychologa. Zdravotnický personám pracující v centrech asistované reprodukce, by měl být důkladně proškolen o této problematice, aby mohl kvalitně a komplexně uspokojovat potřeby klientek.

Abstract:

Objective: The goal of the research was the analysis of the subjective perception of life by women who are unable to conceive naturally, and the resulting effect on the relationship with their partner. Methods: Results: A set of 8 women between the ages 30 to 47 was chosen using the snowball sampling method. All participants had first-hand experience with infertility?they were either diagnosed to be sterile, or had not been able to conceive for at least 2 years at the time of writing of this study. The study was performed as a qualitative research; the data was gathered using semi-structured interview with the participants. Conclusion: Based on the analysis of the data, following categories and subcategories were formed: 1. Perception and experiencing of infertility (Subcategories: Perception of the future before attempting to conceive, First concerns, Alternative methods of treatment, Examination and diagnosis), 2. Experience of the treatment (Subcategories: Beginning of the treatment, Life during treatment, Social bonds, The most difficult moment, Decision to end the treatment), and 3. Experience of infertility among partners (Subcategories: Partner support during treatment, The effect of treatment on the relationship, Childlessness and adoption). The main finding based on the analysis is that the experience of infertility is commensurate to the fashion in which they received the information about the diagnosis and the possible solutions. The most difficult moment for women during treatment is the waiting for the pregnancy test results and the disappointment in case the results come back negative. The regulation of sexual intercourse between partners by a medical doctor is also very taxing on the relationship.
