Think Thanks and Slovak Politics in the 1990s

Abstract:

This thesis deals with an analysis of the importance of Slovak think tanks and their figures in the period of 1990s. Slovak think tanks emerged when the shift from the communist regime to the democracy took place and then when the sovereign Slovak Republic was established that was connected with the specific style of the reign of the political elite represented by Vladimír Mečiar. It was that style of government leadership that became a main factor for forming the think tanks and as far as their professional capacity and building credibility towards the Slovak society are concerned. After the elections in 1998 the think tanks were accepted by the new governement headed by M. Dzurinda and then their products became more and more utilised. The development of Slovak think tanks in 1990s in the context of Slovak politics will be analysed on the basis of the interview with leading figures of these think tanks in the surveyed period.

Abstract:

Táto diplomová práca sa zaoberá analýzou role slovenských think tankov a osobnosti v nich v období 90 rokov. Think tanky na Slovensku vznikali v prostredí prechodu spoločnosti od komunistickej smerom k demokratickému režimu, ďalej vzniku samostatnej Slovenskej republiky a špecifického štýlu vlády politickej elity, ktorú reprezentoval Vladimír Mečiar. Práve štýl tejto vládnej politiky bol hlavným faktorom formovania think tankov v zmysle ich odbornej kapacity a zvyšovania kredibility v ponímaní slovenskej verejnosti. Po parlamentných voľbách v roku 1998 došlo k akceptácií think tankov zo strany vlády na čele s M. Dzrurindom a postupne čoraz väčšiemu využívaniu ich produktov. Vývoj slovenských think tankov v 90 rokoch v kontexte slovenskej politiky je analyzovaný na základe rozhovor s vedúcimi osobnosťami týchto think tankov v sledovanom období.
