Gender differences in cognitive and affective mechanisms in social cognition

Abstract:

Abstrakt Tato práce se zabývá rozdíly ve vybraných sociálně-kognitivních procesech mezi muži a ženami. V teoretické části je popsán současný stav poznání v oblasti výzkumu sociální kognice a rozdílů mezi pohlavími. Výzkumnému souboru, složenému ze 27 žen a 17 mužů, byla administrována testová baterie obsahující jak sebeposuzovací tak i výkonové metod. Výsledky ukázaly na odlišnosti ve strategiích emoční regulace, v reportovaném arousalu a v udávaném zájmu o afektivní stavy druhých osob. V oblastech vizuální přebírání perspektivy ani v oblasti automatické imitace se rozdíl neprokázal. Výzkumný soubor tvořilo 17 mužů a 26 žen. Na závěr jsou diskutovány limity studie.

Abstract:

Abstract The main focus of the diploma thesis is an exploration of gender differences in terms of social cognition. Contemporary theories and findings are described in the theoretical part. A group of self-report and performance-related tests was administered to the research sample (women N = 27 and men N = 17). The results of the study shows significant differences in emotion regulation strategies, as well as in reported arousal and in reported empathic concern for other people. On the other hand, there were no significant findings in visual perspective taking nor in automatic imitations. In the final part of the thesis limits of the study are discussed.
