Utilization of highly enriched uranium from dismantled nuclear warheads - analysis of program Megatons to Megawatts

Abstract:

Předkládaná bakalářská práce je věnovaná otázce využití vojenského uranu pro mírové účely v rámci rusko-amerického programu Megatons to Megawatts. Ve snaze znovu potvrdit svou věrnost závazku o rozvoji a mírovém využívání jaderné energie ve shodě se Smlouvou o nešíření jaderných zbraní, 18. února roku 1993 mezi Vládou Ruské federace a Vládou Spojených států amerických byla podepsána smlouva o využití vysoce obohaceného uranu získaného z jaderné zbraně. Následně, tato smlouva zahájila cely dvacetiletý program. Svou snahou sebrat co nejúplnější charakteristiku průběhu programu Megatons to Megawatts autorka chce přispět k zvětšení pozornosti k otázce praktického způsobu plnění závazku o nešíření jaderných zbraní.

Abstract:

​The presented thesis is devoted to the question of the utilization of military uranium for peaceful purposes, within the framework of the Russian-American program Megatons to Megawatts. In an effort to reaffirm loyalty and commitment to the development of peaceful usage of nuclear energy, and in conformity with the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, a contract about the utilization of highly enriched uranium extracted from nuclear weapons was signed on the 18th of February 1993 between the Governments of the Russian Federation and the United States of America. Based on this contract the entire twenty-year program was subsequently launched. With her effort to provide the most complete characterization of the program Megatons to Megawatts author wants to contribute to increasing attention to the question of practical fulfilment of obligations to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons.​
