Presbyopia and accommodation in the 21st century

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce podává ucelený přehled procesu implantace multifokálních nitroočních čoček, jakožto jednoho z nejmodernějších nástrojů ke korekci presbyopie. První kapitola popisuje anatomii oka s důrazem na anatomii a fyziologii oční čočky. Následují kapitoly popisující akomodaci, kontrastní citlivost a nejčastější indikace k implantaci umělých nitroočních čoček. Pátá kapitola je věnována presbyopii a šestá rozdělení katarakty. V následující kapitole jsou popsána veškerá vyšetření, která jsou důležitá před odstraněním šedého zákalu a implantací umělé nitrooční čočky. Osmá kapitola popisuje průběh kataraktové chirurgie a poslední, devátá kapitola teoretické části se zabývá umělými nitroočními čočkami. Výzkumná část se zabývá srovnáním zrakové ostrosti do blízka, na střední vzdálenost a do dálky, a dále pak fotopické a mezopické kontrastní citlivosti mezi dvěma typy multifokálních nitroočních čoček. Další předmět výzkumné části představuje srovnání fotopické a mezopické kontrastní citlivosti celého souboru testovaných multifokálních nitroočních čoček s očekávanými hodnotami.

Abstract:

The master’s thesis is a comprehensive overview of the process of the multifocal intraocular lenses implantation, which is one of the most modern ways of correcting presbyopia. The first chapter describes the anatomy of an eye with an accent to the anatomy and physiology of a lens. The next chapters are describing accommodation, contrast sensitivity and the most common indications for the intraocular lens implantation. The fifth chapter focusses on presbyopia and in the sixth chapter overviews the types of the cataract. The following chapter describes all the examination that is needed to be done before the cataract surgery. The eighth chapter describes the process of the cataract surgery and the last chapter of the theoretical part is about multifocal intraocular lenses. The research part focusses on a comparison of two types of multifocal intraocular lenses in the uncorrected distance, intermediate and near visual acuity and photopic and mesopic contrast sensitivity. Another subject of the research part of this master’s thesis is a comparison of the reached contrast sensitivity to the values of the normal healthy population.
