Babel: exeriment within the limits of convention

Abstract:

Ve své bakalářské práci analyzuji snímek Babel z roku 2006 režiséra Alejandra Gonzálese Iñárritu s použitím neformalistické metodologie. Věnuji se jeho ekonomickému a kulturně-historickému kontextu od předvýrobního období až po uvádění a kritickou reflexi. V této souvislosti se zejména zaměřuji na fenomén užívání komplikovaných narativních struktur (konkrétněji síťovýchi narativů), jež je v posledních letech stále častější. V analytické části rozebírám otázku práce filmu s narací a stylem zvláště s ohledem na uplatnění kontrastu experimentálních a konvenčních způsobů filmového vyprávění.

Abstract:

In this bachelor thesis I analyze the movie Babel (2006, directed by Alejandro Gonzáles Iñárritu) with the help of neoformalistic methodology. I deal with its economic and cultural-historical context from the preproduction period to the distribution strategies and the critical reflections. In this connection I especially focus on the phenomenon of the use of the complex narratives (particularly the network narratives), which is recently more and more frequent. In the analytical part I question how the film works with the narrative and style particularly with regard to the application of the contrast of experimental and conventional ways of film storytelling.
