The role and the perception of a doula support

Abstract:

Předkládaná diplomová práce, vycházející z teoretických východisek antropologie a sociologie porodu, se zabývá certifikovanými doprovázejícími osobami dulami, které svým působením či přítomností přinášejí nepřetržitou emoční a fyzickou podporu klientkám a klientům během těhotenství, porodu a šestinedělí. Ve svém důsledku nahrazují "tradiční" přítomnost zkušených a porodu znalých žen během vlastního aktu přechodu partnerů do role rodičů. V historické a mezikulturní perspektivě byly těhotné ženy často v době těhotenství, porodu a šestinedělí doprovázeny a podporovány jinými ženami. Na našem území se veškeré porody v minulém století přesunuly z prostředí domácností, kde byly prosyceny rozličnými rituálními praktikami, do prostředí institucionálních porodnic. Tato změna s sebou přinesla významné snížení perinatální úmrtnosti, ale také ze samotného porodu vytvořila chirurgickou operaci. Pod vlivem nastupující komercionalizace a individualizace porodní péče docházelo k proměnám porodní péče. Porodnice se tak začaly otevírat veřejnosti a na porodních sálech se začíná tolerovat přítomnost doprovázejících osob, v rámci nichž můžeme nalézt certifikované duly. V práci se zaměřuji jednak na sociální roli profesionálních doprovázejících osob, a také na vlastní zkušenosti a vnímání rodičů právě se spoluprací dul. Specifické sociální role, kterých se duly ujímají, nabývají silně intimních, avšak dočasných kvalit.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis, based on the theoretical foundations of anthropology and sociology of the childbirth, addresses the certified accompanying persons - doulas who by their activity or presence provide continuous emotional and physical support to the clients during pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum period. As a result, they replace the "traditional" presence of the experienced and knowledgeable women during the actual act of the change from the roles of partners into the roles of parents. In the historical and intercultural perspective were the pregnant women often during the pregnancy, the childbirth and the postpartum accompanied and supported by other women. In our area, all births in the last century shifted from the domestic environment full o various ritual practices to the institutional environment of the maternity hospitals. This change has brought along a significant reduction in the prenatal mortality but it also created a surgery from the birth itself. Under the influence of the rising commercialization and individualization of obstetric care, the obstetric care has been changing. Maternity hospitals began to open to the public and the delivery rooms started to tolerate the presence of the accompanying persons, among whom we can find the certified doulas. The thesis focuses both on the social role of professional accompanying persons and also on parents' experiences and perceptions of the cooperation with the doulas. The specific social roles which doulas have, become of very intimate, however only temporary, qualities.
