Anotácia:

V roce 2009 odhadovala asociace National Threat Assessment, že na území USA existuje přes 2.000 gangů. Tato diplomová práce studuje sociologické prvky amerických gangů na případových studiích tří z nich,představující hlavní typologické skupiny amerických gangů. Konkrétně jsou to: Mara Salvatrucha, Crips a Aryan Brotherhood.První část práce tedy mapuje zmíněné gangy z pohledu jejich vzniku, historie, aktivit, rituálů, způsobů komunikace a dalších unikátních rysů,jako např. FBI vyšetřování, tetování, graffiti a šifrovacích systémů. Druhá část práce pak zobecňuje a shrnuje zjištění z případových studií za pomoci dalších informačních zdrojů. Tato kapitola je dál rozdělena na faktory, které ovlivňují vznik a členství v gangu, tj. obrana,integrace a zisk. Dále je struktura gangů srovnávána s institucí armády a její hierarchií. V závěrečné části práce jsou aplikovány metody sociologa Norberta Eliase, jenž se zabýval středověkou společností, na fenomén gangů a vězení, především z hlediska agresivity, násilí a emočního vývoje společnosti.

Abstract:

In 2009 the National Threat Assessment Association estimated that there are over 2,000 gangs in all of the federal states of the USA. The thesis attempts to analyze the sociological aspects of the major ones, using three case studies of the representatives. The work is divided into three main parts. First one maps the three large typological representatives of U.S. gangs, i.e. the Mara Salvatrucha, the Crips and the Aryan Brotherhood. This very part includes their origin, history, activities, rituals, means of communication and unique features of the gangs, such as FBI investigation strategies, tattoo symbols, graffiti and code messages. The second part of the thesis generalizes the findings from the case studies with the support of other gang information sources, focusing primarily on the motives of gang origin, membership and on comparison of gangs to the army institution. Here the motivation section is further divided into three factors, i.e. defense, economics and integration. Finally, the third sociological section applies the medieval theories of Norbert Elias on gangs and prisons, especially from the perspective of aggression, violence and emotional development of the society.
