Motivation of amateur ice hockey players for physical activity in the period of limitations related to COVID-19

Abstract:

Pandemie COVID-19 a s tím související zaváděné restrikce měly negativní dopad na pohybovou aktivitu (Kuitunena et al., 2021). Cílem této práce bylo analyzovat dopady pandemie COVID-19 na motivaci amatérských hráčů ledního hokeje k pohybové aktivitě. Data byla získána formou polostrukturovaných rozhovorů, kterých se účastnilo celkem 5 respondentů (muži). K vyhodnocení výsledku výzkumného šetření jsem v této práci použil analytický přístup tematické analýzy dle Braun & Clarke (2006). Z analýzy vyplynulo, že u amatérských hráčů ledního hokeje došlo vlivem pandemie COVID-19 ke snížení motivace k pohybové aktivitě a zvýšení psychické nepohody. V kontextu zaváděných opatření v období pandemie COVID-19 narážíme na ohrožení důležitého aspektu identity, na pocity frustrace a bezmoci, nejistoty atd. Také lze vypozorovat hluboký vztah k lednímu hokeji a tím i pozitivní emoce s tímto sportem spojené.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is an analysis of the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic in regard to the motivation of amateur ice hockey players towards physical activity. Data were collected using half-structured interviews which were conducted with five respondents (male). For result evaluation, I used the analytical approach of the Braun & Clarke analysis (2006). Generally there was a decrease in motivation towards physical activity and an increase in mental discomfort due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the aforementioned group of ice hockey players. In correspondence with enacted measures during the COVID-19 pandemic, we encounter an endangerment of important aspects of identity, feeling of frustration and helplessness, uncertainty etc. It is also possible to observe a deep relationship with ice hockey and thus positive emotions connected with this sport.
