Problematic digital media use in queer population - a systematic review

Abstract:

Tato práce představuje systematickou rešerši, zabývající se prevalencí a rizikovými faktory pro rozvoj digitálních závislostí u queer populace. Zahrnuty byly studie, které se věnovaly digitálním závislostem (kromě pornografie a kybersexuality) u queer populace a byly napsány v anglickém jazyce. Prostřednictvím vyhledávání v databázi EBSCO a dodatečným dohledáváním jsem objevil dvanáct studií věnujících se této problematice. Syntéza poznatků přinesla zjištění ohledně vyšší prevalence digitálních závislostí u queer populace, a to zejména u hraní počítačových her a závislostí na internetu a tři faktory, které ovlivňují digitální závislost u queer populace: FOMO, body image a minoritní stresory. Práce odhaluje prevalenci digitálních závislostí u queer populace, přičemž poukazuje na rizikové faktory vzniku závislosti, což může být užitečné při terapeutické péči s queer populací. Zároveň práce poukazuje na metodologické nedostatky primárních studií.

Abstract:

This study is a systematic review of the prevalence and risk factors for the development of digital addiction in the queer population. Included were studies that addressed digital addictions (excluding pornography and cybersexuality) in queer populations and were written in English. Through searching the EBSCO database and additional searching, I found twelve studies addressing this issue. The synthesis of the findings yielded findings regarding the higher prevalence of digital addiction in the queer population, particularly computer gaming and internet addiction, and three factors that influence digital addiction in the queer population: FOMO, body image, and minority stressors. This paper reveals the prevalence of digital addiction in the queer population, highlighting risk factors for addiction that may be useful in therapeutic care with the queer population. At the same time, the work highlights methodological shortcomings of primary studies.
