Low-temperature alteration of metamict minerals

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá především mobilitou prvků v Y,REE-Nb,Ta,Ti oxidech z NYF pegmatitů a snaží se popsat procesy, ke kterým dochází během hydrotermální alterace. K výzkumu byla použita elektronová mikrosonda, XRD a autoklávy. Práce je rozdělená do dvou hlavních částí. V první části popisuje procesy v přírodně alterovaných zrnech. Alterace zkoumaných zrn z Třebíčského Plutonu vedla k nabohacení o Si, Ca a Fe a k velkému ochuzení o prvky vzácných zemin (REE). Suma oxidů během zvyšující se alterace klesá v důsledku hydratace z 98,42 na 83,46 %. Zrna z Evje-Iveland (Norsko) a Ytterlida (Švédsko) jsou méně alterovaná, což dokládá i menší rozdíl v sumách oxidů (93,66-98,65 %). Dochází zde k mírnému ochuzení Fe a k nabohacení Ca a Si. Zrna z obou zkoumaných lokalit vykazují malou či téměř žádnou mobilitu prvků Nb, Ta a Ti, stejně tak i U a Th. Druhá část je zaměřená na popis alteračních pochodů v laboratorních podmínkách, kde sice nedošlo k závratným změnám v chemismu zkoumaných zrn aeschynitu-(Y), polykrasu-(Y) a fergusonitu-(Y) (mírné ochuzení o Ca a U, mírné nabohacení o Si), zato docházelo k vyluhování a rekrystalizaci zrn zejména v kyselém prostředí, a to především na okrajích zrn a v místech, která byla již v přírodních zrnech dříve alterovaná.

Abstract:

This thesis is focused on the element mobility in Y,REE-Nb,Ta,Ti oxides from NYF granitic pegmatites and tries to describe and understand processes caused by their hydrothermal alteration. Electron microprobe, XRD and autoclaves were used to carry out the research. The work is divided into two main sections. In the first part processes in naturally altered grains are described. The alteration of the grains from the Třebíč pluton leads to the enrichment in Si, Ca and Fe and to the strong depletion in rare earth elements (REE). As a result of hydration, the sum of oxides decreases from 98,42 to 83,46 % with increasing alteration. The mineral grains from Evje-Iveland, Norway and Ytterlida, Sweden are less altered which is indicated by the smaller differences in sum of oxides (93,66-98,65 %). During the alteration, these grains are slightly depleted in Fe and enriched in Ca and Si. The grains from all localities show low or nearly no mobility of Nb, Ta and Ti as well as of U and Th. The other part of the thesis is focused on the description of the alteration processes in laboratory conditions. Although the differences in chemistry of the studied grains (aeschynite-(Y), polycrase-(Y), fergusonite-(Y)) are minimal (slight depletion in Ca and U, slight enrichment in Si), dissolution-reprecipitation processes have been observed in the mineral grains under acidic conditions. Dissolution-reprecipitation occurs preferentially at the grain margins and in areas previously altered in the nature.
