The Influence of Personality Traits on Pre-competition States at Dancers of Acrobatic Rock and Roll

Abstract:

Cílem naší práce je zjistit, jestli mají jednotlivé rysy osobnosti definované podle modelu Big Five vliv na vznik anxiety při předstartovních stavech u tanečníků akrobatického rokenrolu. V teoretické části práce se věnujeme nejprve oblasti sportu. Mapujeme jeho vývoj a vztah k jedinci, popisujeme členění jednotlivých sportovních aktivit. Ve druhé kapitole je krátce nastíněna psychologie sportu, její historii a metody. Třetí kapitola je věnována akrobatickému rokenrolu. Seznamujeme v ní čtenáře s tímto sportem, předkládáme jeho historii, představujeme jeho taneční kategorie. Nastiňujeme pravidla akrobatického rokenrolu a podobu soutěží. Čtvrtá kapitola se zabývá tématikou osobnosti. Charakterizuje její strukturu, definuje osobnostní vlastnosti, popisuje osobnost sportovce. Pátá kapitola teoretické části práce se zaměřuje na oblast emocí ve sportu. Vysvětluje, jaký vliv mají emoce na sportovní činnost, charakterizuje předstartovní stavy, dotýká se problematiky úzkosti ve sportovní činnosti, představuje možnosti regulace aktuálních psychických stavů, popisuje emoční prožívání pubescentů ve sportu. V úvodu empirické části práce jsou vymezeny naše výzkumné cíle – najít spojitost mezi určitými osobnostními vlastnostmi tanečníků akrobatického rokenrolu a vznikem úzkosti při předstartovních stavech během jejich závodů. Výzkum proběhl v reálném prostředí – během zlínské soutěže - O cenu města Zlína - v roce 2006. Výzkumný soubor čítal 104 tanečníků, které jsme otestovali dotazníkem Little Five a škálou ŠAD – škály na měření úzkosti a úzkostlivosti u dětí. Získaná data byla zpracována pomocí metody korelace a analyzována po stránce kvantitativní. Zjistili jsme, že existují statisticky významné vztahy mezi jednotlivými faktory definovanými podle modelu Big Five a mírou úzkosti při předstartovních stavech. U čtyř z pěti faktorů (extraverze, přívětivost, svědomitost, otevřenost vůči zkušenostem) byly zjištěny nepříliš těsné negativní vztahy s mírou úzkosti při předstartovních stavech. Faktor neuroticismus koreloval s anxietou jako jediný pozitivně, avšak výsledky ukázaly taktéž na nepříliš těsný vztah.

Abstract:

The aim of our work is to find out if particular features defined by the model Big Five influence the formation of pre-competition state anxiety at dancers of acrobatic rock’n’roll. At first, we attend to the area of sport in the theoretical part. We survey its development and its reference to the individual and we describe the classification of individual sports activities. Sports psychology is briefly outlined in the second chapter. We target the sports psychology and its history and methods. The third chapter is concerned with acrobatic rock’n’roll. We acquaint the reader with this sport, present its history and dance categories. Further, we outline the rules of acrobatic rock’n’roll and the form of contests. The fourth chapter deals with the theme of the Psychology of personality. It defines the personality and its qualities, characterizes its structure and describes the personality of athlete. The last chapter targets the emotions in sport. It explains the influence of emotions on sport activities, characterizes the pre-competition states, it covers the problems with anxiety in sport activities and presents the possibilities concerning regulation of actual mental states. The experimental goals are defined in the introduction of the empirical part. We try to find continuity among personal traits of acrobatic rock’n’roll dancers and anxiety formation at pre-competition states pending the contests. The research went ahead in the real scene during the competition - O cenu města Zlína - in 2006. Exploratory set amounted to 104 dancers that were tested through the questionnaire Little Five and the scale ŠAD – which is a scale for metering anxiety and trait anxiety concerned children. Acquired data were compiled through the medium of correlation and analyzed quantitatively. We discovered that there exist statistically significant relations between particular factors defined according to the model Big Five and the rate of anxiety regarding pre-competition states. We found out not very close negative relations with the rate of anxiety as regards pre-competition states at four of the five factors (extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, explicitness towards experience/intellect ). The element of neuroticism correlates with anxiety positively, but the results shows not very close relations as well.
