The role of social environment in young women's body image shaping

Abstract:

Bakalářská diplomová práce teoreticko-empirického charakteru se zabývá rolí sociálního prostředí v utváření tělesného sebepojetí mladých žen. Teoretická část obsahuje vymezení tělesného sebepojetí a procesů, které se společně s kulturou a sociálním prostředím podílí na jeho utváření. Cílem vlastního empirického šetření je popsat, jakým způsobem mladé ženy interpretují působení sociálního prostředí na prožívání vlastního těla. Analýzou hloubkových polostrukturovaných rozhovorů se šesti mladými ženami se ukázalo, že interakce se sociálním prostředím mají na tělesné sebepojetí významný vliv, zejména hodnocení a postoje vůči tělu.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis focuses on the role of social environment in young women's body image shaping. It has a theoretical-empirical character. In the theoretical part, the author gives the definition of body image and the processes that, together with culture and social environment, contribute to its shaping. The aim of empirical research is to describe how young women interpret the influence of social environment on the perception of their own bodies. The analysis of in-depth semi-structured interviews with six young women showed that the interactions with social environment have great impact on body image, especially body evaluation and attitudes towards the body.
