Social Class in Mark Twain's The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is to analyze how social classes are depicted in Mark Twain's The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by comparing it to other works of 19th-century American fiction. The first chapter describes and characterizes social classes and briefly mentions the biggest cause of changes in 19th-century American society the American Civil War. The second part of the paper analyzes how these classes are depicted in the chosen works of fiction. The third and final part uses this analysis to compare it to The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, to analyze it, and to find similarities and deviations in depiction of the social classes.

Abstract:

Předmětem této práce ja analyzovat vyobrazení sociálních tříd v knize Dobrodružství Huckleberryho Finna od Marka Twaina porovnáním s ostatnímy díly fikce napsanými v Americe 19. století. Úvodní kapitola popisuje a charakterizuje sociální třídy a stručně zmiňuje největší příčinu změn v třídách 19. století - Americkou občanskou válku. Druhá část pak analyzuje, jakým způsobem jsou sociální třídy vyobrazeny ve vybraných dílech fikce. Třetí a poslední část využívá část předchozí k porovnání a analýze Dobrodržství Huckleberryho Finna, a ke zjištění podobností a odchylek ve vyobrazení sociánlích tříd.
