Interpretation of Hegel's Thesis on the Past Character of Art

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá interpretací Hegelovy teze o minulostním charakteru umění, zejména pak tím, jak se s ní vypořádává a interpretuje ji Jan Patočka, což je sledováno na vztahu jeho uchopení rozdílu mezi uměním minulosti a uměním přítomnosti. Nejprve se diplomová práce zaměřuje na G. W. F. Hegela - zabývá se popisem jeho života a jeho díla, dále jsou představeny základní myšlenky jeho filosofického systému. Následně v návaznosti na to je stručně popsána jeho filosofie umění (estetika) a vyloženo její jádro, které spočívá v Hegelově tezi o minulostním charakteru umění, která se později stala středem zájmu mnoha dalších významných teoretiků umění, což svědčí o její aktualitě a důležitosti. Na konci se práce je představen Jan Patočka, jeden z nejvýznamnějších českých filosofů 20. století, a jeho filosofické dílo. Dále je sledována jeho interpretace Hegelovy teze o minulostním charakteru umění, zvláště a v souvislosti s tím jsou také krátce představeny a sledovány názory M. Heideggera a H.-G. Gadamera na tuto problematiku.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis deals with the interpretation of Hegel's thesis on the past character of art, especially with its rendering and interpretation by Jan Patočka, which is illustrated on the relation of Patočka's concept of difference between art of the past and present. First, the thesis focuses on G. F. W. Hegel, dealing with his life and works and presenting fundamental ideas of his philosophical system. As a follow-up, it briefly describes his philosophy of art (aesthetics) and explains its core, which is grounded in Hegel's thesis on the past character of art. The thesis is still considered topical and significant, as it later became the centre of interest for many other theoreticians of art. The last part introduces Jan Patočka, one of the most important Czech philosophers of the twentieth century, and his works. It further deals with his interpretation of Hegel's thesis on the past character of art, especially in connection with the related opinions of M. Heidegger and H. G. Gadamer.
