The importance and status of cooperative banking in the Czech Republic

Abstract:

Družstevní záložny vznikaly v devatenáctém a v první polovině 20. století jako společnosti lokálně působící, které pomáhaly svým členům formou levnějších úvěrů, působily také jako obecný tmelící prvek místní společnosti. Současný stav je v mnohém jiný. Aktuální změny v legislativě družstevních záložen mění i doposud platné podmínky jejich fungování. Ve své práci se zabývám analýzou vývoje, významu a postavení současného družstevního bankovnictví na pozadí komparace bankovního a družstevního sektoru, legislativy a dohledu.

Abstract:

Credit unions were being created in the nineteenth century and in the first half of the 20th century as companies operating locally, which were helping its members by providing cheaper loans, they also served as a general uniting element of the local community. The current situation is different in many ways. Contemporary alternations in the legislation of credit unions are changing even the still applicable conditions of its functioning. In my work I analyze the development, the importance and the status of the current cooperative banking background in comparison to the banking and cooperative sector, legislation and supervision.
