Heat Resistance of Liquid Crystal Polymers Usable as Reinforcement in Composites

Abstract:

V teoretické části práce je popsán princip kapalných krystalů, jejich kategorie a obecné vlastnosti. V práci jsou popsány i různé metody polymerace, kterými mohou být látky popisované v praktické části syntetizovány. Je uveden i stručný popis kapalně krystalických polymerů, na jejichž bázi jsou vzorky v praktické části připravovány. Dále jsou popsány obecné vlastnosti a kategorie kompozitních materiálů. Nakonec je v teoretické části diskutována termická analýza. V praktické části jsou zmíněny vstupní látky pro syntézu a následná syntéza polymerních materiálů. Syntetizované materiály jsou rozděleny do několika kategorií a zkoumány termální analýzou. Poté je uvažováno o vztahu podmínek syntézy látek a jejich výsledných termálních vlastností. Je zmíněn i vliv přirozeného stárnutí na sledované vzorky. Ve vyhodnocení jsou shrnuty všechny poznatky ze sledovaných hodnot a je teoretizováno o jejich možné aplikaci jako výztuží do kompozitů. Toto využití by bylo složité a ze sledovaných dat nelze navrhnout konkrétní aplikace. Lze ovšem vidět potenciál kapalně krystalických polymerů a je navrženo další zkoumání.

Abstract:

Theoretical part of this thesis deals with the basic principle of liquid crystals, their categories, and general properties. The principles of polymerization that could be applied to synthesize substances used in the practical part of this work are also described. The liquid crystalline polymers, on which the measured samples were based, are also described. Composite materials are mentioned with their universal properties and subcategories. The principles of thermal analysis are described in the last chapter of this theoretical part. The practical part is opened by the description of reactants employed for polymerization and the synthesis itself. Resulting substances are divided into multiple categories and examined by thermal analysis. The relationship between the conditions of synthesis of substances and their resulting thermal properties is considered. The effect of natural aging on the studied samples is also mentioned. The evaluation summarizes all obtained findings. The theories about possible application of LCP as reinforcement in composites are included. Such application would be complicated and specific purpose cannot be determined from the observed data. However, the potential of liquid crystalline polymers can be seen, and further investigation is proposed.
