Environmental Risk Factors for Schizophrenia

Abstract:

Schizofrenie je závažné psychotické onemocnění doprovázené narušením většiny psychických funkcí člověka. Na světě jím trpí zhruba 1 % populace. Navzdory celé řady studií a výzkumů nebyla dosud stále objasněna příčina vzniku tohoto onemocnění. Cílem bakalářské práce je seznámení se s problematikou schizofrenie a podání základních informací o rizikových faktorech tohoto onemocnění, zejména pak možného vlivu environmentálních rizikových faktorů. Práce je zpracována formou literární rešerše. Úvodní část práce je zaměřena na základní popis schizofrenie, její příznaky a projevy, průběh onemocnění, epidemiologii, diagnostická kritéria, klasifikaci a stručně na její možnosti léčby. Důležitou součástí práce je souhrn a charakteristika možných environmentálních rizikových faktorů, které se na vzniku onemocnění mohou podílet.

Abstract:

Schizophrenia is a severe psychotic illness accompanied by disruption of the majority of human mental functions which affects about 1% of the world population. Despite the existence of a number of research studies, the cause of the illness has not yet been satisfactorily determined. This Bachelor Diploma work aims to provide an overview of the main issues related to schizophrenia including basic information on the risk factors with a special focus on possible environmental factors. The present work is a literature overview whose introductory part deals with the basic description of schizophrenia, its signs and symptoms, progression of the illness, epidemiology, diagnostic criteria, classification as well as some treatment options. The work also gives a summary and general characteristics of potential environmental risk factors which may contribute to the emergence of the illness.
