Molecular simulation of polar liquid mixtures in electric field

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá simulacemi methanolu ve vodě metodou molekulární dynamiky v prostředí vnějšího elektrického pole. Práce zkoumá separaci složek směsi v závislosti na intenzitě elektrického pole a při různých koncentracích chloridu sodného. Pro molekuly vody a methanolu byly po řadě použity modely SPC/E a OPLS/2016. Změny složení látek v jednotlivých oblastech soustavy byly sledovány vyhodnocením hustotních profilů, počtů částic a molárních zlomků jednotlivých komponent. Zjištění je takové, že vlivem elektrického pole dochází k separaci složek směsí a navíc k obohacování vnějších oblastí boxu o vodu, zatímco methanol se sdružuje uprostřed, jak zněl předpoklad.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis deals with simulations of water and methanol with the use of molecular dynamics while subjected to external electric fi eld. The research examines the separation of the components of the mixture in dependence on the electric fi eld intensity and at various concentrations of sodium chloride. The SPC/E model was used for water molecules and so was the OPLS/2016 for methanol. The composition changes of substances in the individual regions of the system were monitored by evaluating density profi les, particle numbers and molar fractions of individual components. The finding is that, due to the electric fi eld, the components of the mixture are separated and, in addition to the enrichment of the outer regions of the box, water, while the methanol associates in the middle as assumed.
