Determination of nutrient digestibility by in vitro method in different diets for dogs

Abstract:

Cílem diplomové práce bylo stanovit stravitelnost hrubého proteinu mezi různými typy diet a porovnat jejich hodnoty. Do experimentu bylo zahrnuto 5 různých diet: granule A1 (s obsahem hmyzí moučky), granule A2 (s obsahem drůbeží moučky), granule A3 (s obsahem jehněčího masa a rýže), konzervované krmivo a BARF krmivo. Trávení bylo simulováno v laboratoři metodou in vitro za použití roztoku pepsin-HCl a roztoku pankreatinu. Výsledky experimentu ukázaly, že stravitelnost hrubého proteinu se lišila v závislosti na typu stravy. Konkrétně byla stanovena stravitelnost u granulí A1, A2 a A3 měřena na 77,80 %, 72,59 % a 80,10 %, zatímco u konzervy dosahovala 82,93 % a u BARFu 75,60 %. Výsledky tohoto pokusu naznačují, že kvalitní průmyslově vyráběné krmivo může dosahovat vyšší stravitelnosti než syrová strava, o které se mnohdy tvrdí, že by měla být více stravitelná oproti granulovaným krmivům.

Abstract:

The aim of the thesis was to determine the digestibility of crude protein between different types of diets for dogs and to compare their values. Five different diets were included in the experiment: dry dog food A1 (containing insect meal), A2 (containing poultry meal), A3 (containing lamb and rice), canned feed and BARF. Digestion was simulated in the laboratory by the in vitro method using pepsin-HCl and pancreatin solution. The results of the experiment showed that the digestibility of crude protein was different depending on the type of diet. Specifically, the digestibility of A1, A2 and A3 dry dog food was measured at 77,80 %, 72,59 % and 80,10 %, respectively, while that of canned food was 82,93 % and 75,60 % for BARF. The results of this experiment suggest that high quality industrially produced feeds may achieve higher digestibility than raw diets, which are often claimed to be more digestible than dry dog food.
