Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá historií migrace z Japonska do Spojených států na pozadí vztahu mezi těmito zeměmi v období před druhou světovou válkou. Hlavním cílem práce je poukázat na souvislost mezi změnami, kterými tento vztah prošel, a přístupem obyvatelstva amerického západního pobřeží k japonským imigrantům. Práce se proto zaměřuje na vývoj japonsko-amerických vztahů a popisuje jejich vliv na vznik a šíření protijaponských nálad ve Spojených státech a obzvlášť na západním pobřeží. Také detailně zkoumá protijaponské nálady v tomto regionu s důrazem na motivace jejich vzniku. Na závěr popisuje způsob, jakým různé faktory přispěly ke zhoršování situace Japonců žijících na západním pobřeží.

Abstract:

The thesis examines the history of Japanese immigration to the United States before World War II in the context of the Japan-U.S. relationship. Its main purpose is to draw connections between the changes that occurred in the relationship over the years and the attitude of the West Coast residents toward Japanese Americans. The text is therefore focused on the development of the Japan-U.S. relationship and describes how it influenced the way Japanese immigrants were regarded and treated in the United States, especially on the West Coast. The thesis also explores the anti-Japanese sentiment in this region in more detail while putting a special emphasis on its motivations. Furthermore, it traces the way in which various factors contributed to the worsening situation of Japanese Americans living on the West Coast.
