Effect of anabolic steroids on athlete's performance (review study)

Abstract:

Je veřejně známo, že sportovci užívají anabolické androgenní steroidy (AAS) především z důvodu veřejného podvědomí o jejich účincích na zvýšení fyzické zdatnosti (maximální síly) ale také lepší tělesné stavby. Co již není natolik zmiňováno jsou negativní vlivy AAS na organismus člověka. Cílem této bakalářské práce je proto na základě odborných primárních zdrojů prozkoumat efekty androgenních anabolických steroidů na výkon sportovce, ale také jejich nežádoucí účinky na organismus člověka. Jedinci byly využity různé druhy a kombinace AAS. Tato bakalářská studie byla zpracována ve stylu narativního review. Pro vyhledávání těchto studií byly využity tyto elektronické databáze: Google Scholar, Pub Med a EBSCO Discovery service. Do těchto databází byla využita klíčová slova uvedena níže. Před začátkem práce byla zvolena určitá kritéria, které jednotlivé studie musely splnit. Dle těchto kritérií bylo postupně vybráno 18 studií, které dodržují všechna kritéria. Postupná analýza jednotlivých studií byla použita k závěrečnému vyhodnocení výsledků. Bylo dosaženo závěru o široké škále negativních účinků AAS na organismus jedince, které se jeví jako velmi individuální. Anabolického efektu těchto látek bylo dosaženo ve všech studiích zabývající se tímto efektem.

Abstract:

It is publicly known that athletes use anabolic androgenic steroids (AAS) mainly because of the public subconscious about their effects on increasing physical fitness (maximum strength) but also better body composition. What is not much mentioned are the negative effects of AAS on the human body. Thus the aim of this bachelor thesis is to investigate the effects of AAS on the performance of athletes but also their side effects on the human body. Individuals used different types and combinations of AAS. This thesis was prepared in the style of a systematic search where its basis is the analysis of qualitative data. The following electronic databases were used to search for these studies: Google Scholar, Pub Med and EBSCO Discovery service. The keywords listed below were used in these databases. Before starting the work certain criteria were chosen that the individual studies had to meet. According to these criteria, 18 studies, that meet the criteria, were gradually selected. The sequential analysis of individual studies was used for the final evaluation of the results. A conclusion has been reached on a wide range of negative effects of AAS on an individual's body, which appears to be very individual. The anabolic effect of these substances has been achieved in all studies dealing with this effect.
