Perceived risk and engaged preventive strategies before face-to-face meeting with online stranger

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá vnímaným rizikem před setkáním s člověkem z internetu a užitými preventivními strategiemi v kontextu vybraných osobnostních charakteristik (gender, sensation seeking a úzkostnost). Vzorek čítal 194 adolescentů ve věku 15-19 let, přičemž 54,6% tvořily dívky. Data byla získávána prostřednictvím dotazníku, který byl zveřejněn na internetu. Sdílen byl především na Facebooku a stránkách sloužících k seznamování. Dotazník obsahoval nově vytvořenou škálu měřící vnímané riziko před setkáním. Výsledky ukázaly, že nejčastěji adolescenti na setkání chodili v 16 letech a většina z nich (90%) se sešla s někým jiného pohlaví. Nejčastěji reportovaným rizikem bylo riziko spojené s komunikací. Před setkáním se adolescenti tedy báli hlavně toho, že si nebudou mít s druhou osobou o čem povídat a nestanou chvíle trapného ticha. Nejvíce využívanými preventivní strategiemi pak bylo setkání na veřejném místě, požádání o fotku a informování o setkání nějakého vrstevníky. Genderové rozdíly byly zjištěny u několika typů rizik, a to u rizik spojených s komunikací (např. nebudeme si mít o čem povídat), u rizika negativního hodnocení ze strany druhé osoby (např. nebudu se druhé osobě líbit) a u rizika nepravdivého věku druhé osoby (např. na schůzku přijde starší osoba, než jakou čekám). Série několikanásobných lineárních regresí odhalila, že v některých případech jsou pohlaví, sensation seeking a úzkostnost prediktory vnímaného rizika před setkáním. V závěru práce jsou výsledky diskutovány. Společně s nimi jsou diskutovány i doporučení pro budoucí výzkum.

Abstract:

This bachelor‘s thesis deals with a perceived risk of meeting an online strangers and practical preventive strategies in context with some chosen personal charachteristics (gender, sensation seeking, trait anxiety). The sample includes 194 adolescents between 15 and 19 years old (54.6 % females). A questionnaire, which was used to collect the data was posted on the Internet, especially on Facebook and on websites that are designed for meeting people. The questionnaire consists of ad-hoc created scale describing the perceived risk of meeting online strangers. The results suggest, that adolescents usually go to these meetings when they are 16 years old and mostly (90%) meet someone who is an opposite gender. The most frequently reported risk is a risk connected to communication. Adolescents were most afraid they will not find a common topic to talk about and an awkward silence will occur. Preventive strategies that were used most frequently were meeting in public, demanding a picture or telling a friend about this meeting. In a few cases of perceived risk, gender differences were detected, especially at a risk connected to communication (for example: „We will not find a topic to talk about“), at a risk connected to a fear of that I will not be attracted to partner, and at a risk connected to untruthfully stated age (for example: „An older person than I expected will come to the meeting“). Multiple linear regressions have discovered that, in some cases gender, sensation seeking and trait anxiety predict the perceived risk before meeting. The results together with suggestions for a future research are discussed in the end.
