Imminent risks for children in professional foster care in Slovakia

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with professional foster care in Slovakia, which is a form of foster care, institutional care in the concrete. It reacts to the lack of Slovak literature concerning this topic. The aim of the work is to explain what are the risks that could jeopardize children in this care, in term of satisfying the basic psychical needs, since it is relatively new institute, discussed because of its limitations. In the theoretical part, there are the key concepts, forms of social-jural child protection, specifics of vulnerable children and professional foster care and its risks, discussed in literature, explained. The empiric part ties up with the interpretation of the findings, obtained from interviews with professional carers and experts. These informators brought an authentical insight into the issue. In the end, it is possible to state that it is not completely possible to saturate all of the pychical needs of the children in professional foster care, because of its form and temporariness. Also an emotional trauma threatens for a child and foster carers, when the child is leaving this family. Respondents also suggested many changes that could help eliminate the risks. Despite a lot of the limits, all of the informators acknowledged, professional foster care is still better alternative to institutonal care, so that it mostly meets its purpose.

Abstract:

Táto bakalárska práca pojednáva o profesionálnej náhradnej výchove na Slovensku, čo je jedna z foriem náhradnej, konkrétne ústavnej starostlivosti. Reaguje tak na nedostatok literatúry venujúcej sa tejto téme. Cieľom práce je popísať, aké riziká môžu hroziť deťom v tejto starostlivosti z hľadiska naplňovania ich základných psychických potrieb, pretože ide o inštitút pomerne nový a diskutovaný práve kvôli svojim nedostatkom. V teoretickej časti sú rozpracované kľučové pojmy, formy sociálnoprávnej ochrany detí, špecifiká detí vyžadujúcich ochranu a profesionálna náhradná výchova a jej riziká diskutované v literatúre. Empirická časť potom na to nadväzuje interpretáciou zistení, získaných z rozhovorov s profesionálnymi rodičmi a expertmi. Títo informátori priniesli autentický vhľad do problematiky. Záverom je možné konštatovať, že v profesionálnych rodinách nie je možné úplne a dostatočne uspokojovať všetky psychické potreby detí, práve z dôvodu formy tohto inštitútu a jeho dočasnosti. Hrozí tiež emocionálna trauma dieťaťa, aj profesionálnych rodičov pri odchode dieťaťa z tejto rodiny. Respondenti tiež navrhli mnohé zmeny, ktoré by mohli umožniť elimináciu týchto rizík. Napriek svojim mnohým nedostatkom však všetci informátori potvrdili, že v prípade profesionálnej náhradnej výchovy ide o nepochybne lepšiu alterntívu k ústavnej výchove, a že teda tak do veľkej miery plní svoj účel.
