Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá nadpřirozenými prvky v povídkách Isaaca Bashevise Singera. Obsahuje krátkou Singerovu biografii zaměřenou na prvky, které ovlivnily Singera v užití nadpřirozena. Dále zkoumá Singera jako spisovatele magických příběhů, koncentruje se pak na jeho styl, zvláštní literární techniky a důvody pro použití nadpřirozených bytostí. Pozornost je také věnována zasazení jeho povídek a to jak do prostředí východoevropských shtetlů, tak do prostředí amerického velkoměsta. Hlavní část práce je pak věnována rozboru jednotlivých nadpřirozených bytostí, které se v povídkách vyskytují.

Abstract:

This master thesis focuses on the supernatural elements in short stories of Isaac Bashevis Singer. It contains a short biography of Singer with concentration on the elements that influenced the use of the supernatural. Singer is also examined as a writer of magical stories with focus on his style, special narrative tools and reasons for the use of supernatural beings. It focuses also on the setting of his stories, whether it is the milieu of Eastern European shtetl or the American city. The main body of this work consists of the analysis of particular supernatural beings who appear in the short stories.
