Efficiency analysis of selected institutions on the Czech insurance market

Abstract:

The topic of the diploma thesis is the analysis of efficiency and evaluation of insurance companies within the insurance market of the Czech Republic. Firstly, we present a theoretical basis, where we briefly describe the functioning of insurance market entities and the modern development of insurance in the Czech Republic. We present the basic approaches to measuring efficiency with focus more specifically on the data envelope analysis. Based on a research of publications on the evaluation of the efficiency of insurance companies, we process the acquired knowledge in terms of the methodology of efficiency evaluation as well as in terms of application, which are devoted the later chapters of the thesis. We focus meticulously on data analysis, furthermore we apply chosen models, which are connected onto statistical analyses. We evaluate efficiency for different assumptions at technology levels; we examine the differences within the definition of variables entering the model. We monitor the dynamics of the efficiency of insurance market entities; we test the properties of efficiencies for different focus, size or profitability of subjects.

Abstract:

Témou diplomovej práce je analýza efektívnosti a hodnotenie poisťovní v rámci poistného trhu Českej republiky. V prvej polovici textu predstavujeme teoretický základ, kde v krátkosti popisujeme fungovanie subjektov poistného trhu a novodobý vývoj poisťovníctva v Českej republike. Uvádzame základné prístupy merania efektívnosti a konkrétnejšie sa zaoberáme analýzou dátových obalov. Na základe rešerše publikácii o hodnotení efektívnosti poisťovní spracovávame získané poznatky z hľadiska metodológie hodnotenia efektívnosti ako aj z aplikačného hľadiska, ktorému je venovaný priestor v druhej polovici práce. Dôkladne sa venujeme dátovej analýze poisťovní a následne aplikujeme vybrané modely, na ktoré sa viažu štatistické analýzy. Vyhodnocujeme efektívnosť pre rôzne predpoklady na úrovne technológie; skúmame odlišnosti v rámci definície premenných vstupujúcich do modelu. Sledujeme dynamiku efektívnosti subjektov poistného trhu; testujeme vlastnosti efektívností pre rôzne zameranie, veľkosť či ziskovosť subjektov.
