Politics vs. War – a comparative analysis of the dailies Pravda and Čas during the Slovak National Uprising

Abstract:

This diploma thesis is dealing with two antigoverment party’s periodicals, which were being published during the Slovak National Uprising. On one hand the thesis explores the content of the Pravda daily paper, which was the central press organ of the Communist Party of Slovakia, and on the other hand it examines the content of the daily newspaper Čas, which was the central press organ of the Democratic Party of Slovakia. The aim of this thesis is to compare both newspapers in terms of promotion by the political party that were the central press organ of. The thesis also focuses on mutual relationship between the two periodicals. In addition, it analyses and compares the content of both papers Pravda and Čas as a whole. Both newspapers had many similarities in their content. However, the difference between them was only in the style of writing their articles. The attitude they had towards each other was from neutral to positive. It has been noticed that the significant part of Pravda was the political promotion of the Communist Party of Slovakia, while Čas hardly ever mention the existence of the Democratic Party of Slovakia.

Abstract:

Diplomová práca sa zaoberá dvomi protivládnymi straníckymi periodikami vychádzajúcimi v Slovenskom národnom povstaní. Práca skúma obsah denníka Pravda, ktorý bol ústredným tlačovým orgánom Komunistickej strany Slovenska, a obsah denníka Čas, ktorý bol ústredným tlačovým orgánom Demokratickej strany na Slovensku. Hlavným cieľom diplomovej práce je komparácia oboch denníkov z hľadiska propagácie politickej strany, ktorej sú ústredným tlačovým orgánom. Diplomová práca sa rovnako zameriava na výskum vzájomných vzťahov medzi oboma periodikami. Okrem toho sa zaoberá aj analýzou a komparáciou celkového obsahu denníkov Pravda a Čas. Denníky Pravda a Čas si boli vo svojom obsahu veľmi podobné, rozdiel bol iba v štýlovom ladení článkov. Mali k sebe neutrálny až pozitívny vzťah. Výraznou súčasťou denníka Pravda bola politická propagácia Komunistickej strany Slovenska, zatiaľ čo v denníku Čas sa zmienky o Demokratickej strane na Slovensku takmer nevyskytli.
