Existentialism, detective fiction, grotesque. Case of Friedrich Dürrenmatt

Abstract:

Diplomová práce pojednává o prvcích existencialismu a grotesky v dílech detektivního žánru Friedricha Dürrenmatta. Cílem práce je ve vybraných dílech (prózy Soudce a jeho kat, Podezření, Malér, Slib, rozhlasové hry Dvojník, Porucha, Podvečer pozdního podzimu, Noční rozhovor s opovrhovaným člověkem, drama Návštěva staré dámy a film Stalo se za bílého dne) poukázat na témata a pojmy existencialismu (jako mezní situace, absurdno či sebeprojekt)a prvky grotesky, zejména co se týče jejího účinku. V první části jsou na základě sekundární literatury definovány pojmy, s nimiž diplomová práce dále pracuje, druhá část sestává z interpretací konkrétních Dürrenmattových textů. Závěrem bude popis podob existenciálních, detektivních a groteskních prvků v analyzovaných textech.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis deals with the elements of existentialism and grotesque in the works of the detective genre by Friedrich Dürrenmatt. The theses is intended to describe the elements and concepts of existentialism (as the Absurd or marginal situation) and elements of grotesque, especially in terms of its effect in Dürrenmatt´s selected works (prose works The Judge and His Hangman, Suspicion, A Dangerous Game/Traps, The Pledge, radio plays The Double, The Breakdown, One Evening in Late Autumn, Conversation at Night with a Despised Character, play The Visit and a movie It Happened in Broad Daylight). The first part of the thesis is based on the secondary literature and defines the terms with which the diploma thesis continues to work, the second part of the theses consists of interpretations of chosen Dürrenmatt´s texts. In the conclusion, the thesis will describe forms of existential and grotesque elements in analyzed texts.
