Analysis of factors affecting women’s participation in the labor market in Turkey

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se věnuje participaci žen na pracovním trhu v Turecku a zaměřuje se na faktory, které participaci ovlivňují. Práce se nejprve zabývá celkovým obrazem Turecka napříč stručnými dějinami s důrazem na ženy, jejich práva a pracovní trh. Nechybí ani komparace současných podmínek s vybranými státy. To vše slouží k lepšímu porozumění kontextu a vytvoření perspektivy, které nabízejí uchopení referenčního rámce pro následující analýzu faktorů působících na účast žen na pracovním trhu. Postupně jsou v práci rozebírány geografické, sociální, politické, ekonomické a kulturní faktory, které odkrývají genderovou diskriminaci, projevující se na participaci žen na trhu práce. Ukazuje se nízký participační podíl žen, který je zapříčiněn stálým přetrváváním patriarchálního systému, inklinujícího do manželství, tak i do veřejné sféry, nízkým stupněm vzdělání, neregistrovanou pracovní sílou, nedostatkem institucionální péče, výší platů a změnami, které Turecko v posledních desetiletích potkaly, jako liberalizace trhu a politiky spojené s procesy urbanizace a industrializace.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis deals with a women’s participation on labor market in Turkey and focuses on factors influencing the participation. Firstly the thesis addresses to overall depiction of Turkey through the brief story of turkish history with emphasis on women, women’s rights and labor market. It contains a comparison of the current conditions with chosen countries. That all serves to better understanding of context and formating a perspective that offers an image of reference framework for following analysis of factors affecting the women’s participation labor force rate. Succesively there are analyzed georgraphical, social, political, economic and cultural factors that uncover gender discrimination manifasting itself on women’s labor market participation. It shows low women’s participation rate that is caused of still existing patriarchal system that inclines to marriage as well as to public sphere, low level of education, unregistered labor force, lack of institutional care, wages and changes which Turkey has gone through during last decades – liberation of market and politics and processes of urbanization and industrialization.
