Territorial governance of non-state actors

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce "Teritoriální vládnutí nestátních aktérů" pojednává o razantní změně, kterou si prošel vestfálský mezinárodní systém společně s jeho pojetím moderního státu. Konkrétně se zaobírá změnou v chápání a implementace samotného pojmu "vládnutí", neboť v dnešním mezinárodním prostředí dochází k situaci, kdy stát už není nadále jediným zdrojem autority na domácí scéně, a dokonce ani na té mezinárodní. Jednu příčinu této změny představuje markantní nárůst nestátních (ozbrojených) aktérů, který především proběhl po ukončení studené války. Práce je koncipovaná jako jednopřípadová studie, která se věnuje nestátní ozbrojené skupině Boko Haram, která působí v Nigérii. Nastiňuje vznik a vývoj této skupiny s cílem jí začlenit do typologie nestátních aktérů a zároveň zkoumá dopad boje Boko Haram proti vládě na civilní obyvatelstvo, přičemž primární cíl představuje vybádání teritoriálního vládnutí této skupiny.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis ''Territorial governance of non-state actors'' deals with the fierce change of the Westphalian international system together with the concept of modern state. It especially deals with changes of understanding and implementation of the very term ''governing'' because in current form of this system there comes a point when the state is no more the only or in some cases even the main source of authority neither in domestic field nor in the international system. One cause of this change is a prominently increase of non-state (armed) actors, which took place mainly after the end of the Cold War. The work is designed as a one-case study dedicated to the non-state armed group Boko Haram, which operates in Nigeria. It outlines the origin and development of this group with goal to incorporate it into the typology of non-state actors an also examines the impact of the struggle of Boko Haram against the government on the civilian population.
