Abstract:

Hlavním cílem této práce je analýza moderního anglického překladu poezie Marie, královny skotské. Zaměřuje se na tři klíčové oblasti. Úvodní část zkoumá Mariin bouřlivý život z historického hlediska. Druhá pak analyzuje vzdělání a gramotnost žen v renesančním věku a jejich dopad na Mariino psaní. Třetí oblast se zaměřuje na rozbor Mariiny poezie a na to, jak byla její tvorba po staletí přijímána a interpretována. Analýza vede k závěru, že Marie byla výjimečným příkladem ženské renesanční básnířky, jejíž literární odkaz si zaslouží být zařazen mezi literární díla jejich mužských protějšků.

Abstract:

The main aim of this thesis is an analysis of the modern English translation of the poetry of Mary Queen of Scots. The chief objective is to focus on three main areas. Firstly, it examines Mary´s turbulent life from a historical perspective. Secondly, the thesis analyses women´s education and literacy in the Renaissance age and how it impacted Mary´s writing. Lastly, this thesis focuses on Mary´s poetry and how it has been received and interpreted over the centuries. The analysis concludes that Mary was a fine example of a female Renaissance poet whose literary contributions deserve to be ranked alongside her male contemporaries.
