Semantic interpretation of text

Abstract:

Tato práce si klade za cíl představit v základních obrysech metodu interpretativní sémantiky a aplikovat její postupy na konkrétní text: drama Sulamit od Julia Zeyera. Interpretativní sémantika vychází se strukturálního přístupu k jazyku, usiluje o výklad smyslu textů a klade si za cíl interpretační proces objektivizovat, tedy popsat jeho průběh pomocí lingvistických kategorií. Základním východiskem je binární pojetí znaku oproti tradičnímu trinitárnímu modelu, kdy při určení významu nehledáme objekt, na který znak v mimojazykové realitě odkazuje, ale stanovujeme jeho hodnotu uvnitř vztahu k jiným znakům. Rozbor textu provádíme na třech úrovních: makroúroveň, kde určujeme dimensi uvnitř textu, mezoúroveň, kde určujeme domény a mikroúroveň, kde popisujeme výskyt sémat. Klíčovým pojmem analýzy je isotopie, významový celek, který je dán opakovaným výskytem stejných sémat.

Abstract:

The target of this master thesis is to present the method of interpretative semantics and to apply its techniques on the concrete text, drama Sulamit by Julius Zeyer. Interpretative semantics draws inspiration from the structuralistic approach to the text and it strives for the interpretation of the sense of the text. Its aim is to objectivise the process of interpretation, i.e. to describe its development by linguistic categories. The fundamental starting point is the binary conception of a sign in contrast to the trinitarian model. In determining the sense we do not search for the object of the extralingual reality implicated by the sign, but we determine its value by the way of its relation to other signs. The analysis of text is realized on three levels: macro level, where we determine the dimension within the text, meso level, where we determine the domain, and micro level, where we describe the occurrence of semes. Isotopy is the key concept of the analysis. It is a semantic unit, which is constituted by the repetitive occurrence of the same semes.
