Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zaobírá skotským referendem o nezávistlosti, které se konalo 18. září 2014. Referendum umožnilo Skotsku se rozhodnout, zda chce vystoupit ze Spojeného Království a stát se samostatným státem. Obyvatelé Skotska měli možnost odevzdat svůj hlas zodpovězením otázky: mělo by se Skotsko stát samostatným státem? Bakalářská práce se zabývá analýzou politické kampaně předcházející referendu. Dále poskytuje čtenáři seznam výhod a nevýhod spojených se skotskou autonomií prostřednictvím přehledu nejvýznamějších ekonomických, politických a sociálních problémů, s nimiž by se nezávislé Skotsko potýkalo. Bakalářská práce se dále soustřeďuje na atmosféru předcházející referendu s odkazem na vyhodnocení výsledků průzkumů o nezávislosti. Práce je založena na analýze novinových článků, komentářů na twitteru, diskuzí a politických debat konaných v britském a skotském parlamentu a zároveň na analýze diskuzí a doporučení vydaných Evropskou unií. Závěr práce zobrazuje výsledek referenda a náhled na budoucnost Skotska.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis deals with the Scottish vote for independence, which took place 18th September 2014. The referendum enabled Scotland to decide whether to step out of the United Kingdom to form a republic. The people of Scotland had the opportunity to cast their vote answering the question: Should Scotland be an independent country? The bachelor thesis carries out an analysis of the campaign preceding the referendum. It goes on to provide the reader with an overview of the advantages and disadvantages of Scottish autonomy stating the most significant economic, political and social issues an independent Scotland would face. Furthermore, it summarizes the atmosphere just a few months before the referendum, with reference to an evaluation of the continuous polls on the referendum. The thesis bases its analysis on articles in British newspapers, tweets, commentaries and political debates taking place in the British and Scottish parliaments as well as an analysis of the discussions and recommendations provided by the EU. The thesis concludes with the results of the referendum and an overview of what the future holds for Scotland.
