Exercises in the quantum-mechanical modelling of phase boundaries

Abstract:

V rámci této práce byl vytvořen ucelený studijní materiál obsahující zadání čtyř úloh, návody na jejich řešení i jejich vzorová řešení, který je možné využít jak při výuce, tak při samostudiu. První dvě úlohy se zabývají tvorbou výpočetních buněk v programu VESTA (Visualization for Electronic and Structural Analysis) a druhé dvě úlohy jsou z kvantově-mechanického modelování v programu VASP (Vienna Ab Initio Simulation Package). Návody i řešení jednotlivých úloh jsou do této práce zařazeny formou příloh. V Přílohách A jsou zahrnuty zadání a návody. Přílohy B obsahují vzorová řešení všech úloh. V rámci této práce byly vytvořeny vstupní strukturní soubory pro ab initio výpočty pro výpočetní buňky tetragonálního disilicidu C11b MoSi2 s pořadím vrstev AC, hexagonálního disilicidu C40 NbSi2 s pořadím vrstev BAC a pro výpočetní buňku, která je tvořena oběma těmito disilicidy a obsahuje bezdifúzní i difúzní fázové rozhraní C11b MoSi2 (AC)/C40 NbSi2(BAC). Dále byla provedena optimalizace nastavení technických parametrů programu VASP u struktury s bezdifúzním fázovým rozhraním, kubického tělesně centrovaného niobu a křemíku ve struktuře diamantu. V případě čistých prvků byla nalezena rovnovážná uspořádání studovaných struktur pomocí plné strukturní relaxace a v případě struktur s fázovým rozhraním byla provedena relaxace pozic atomů. Z minimálních celkových energií jednotlivých fází byla vyčíslena tvorná tepla fází s fázovým rozhraním vyjádřená vzhledem ke standardním stavům čistých prvků a tvorná tepla difúzních rozhraní vyjádřená vzhledem rozhraní bezdifúznímu.

Abstract:

Within this thesis, comprehensive study material was created containing four exercises, instructions for their solution and their sample solutions, which can be used in both teaching and self-study. The first two exercises deal with the creation of compu-tational cells in the program VESTA (Visualization for Electronic and Structural Analysis), and the following two are from quantum-mechanical modelling in the program VASP (Vienna Ab Initio Simulation Package). Instructions and solutions of individual exercises are included in this work in the form of appendices. The assignment of exercises and instructions are included in Appendix A. Appendix B contains solutions to all exercises. In this thesis, the structural input files for ab initio calculations were created for computational cells of tetragonal disilicide C11b MoSi2 with AC layer order, hexagonal disilicide C40 NbSi2 with BAC layer order and computational cell, which consists of these disilicides and contains both non-diffusive and diffusive phase interface C11b MoSi2(AC)/C40 NbSi2(BAC). Furthermore, the optimization of the settings of the technical parameters of the VASP program was performed for the structure with a non-diffusive phase interface, cubic body-centred niobium and silicon in the diamond structure. In the case of pure elements, the equilibrium arrangements of studied structures were found by means of the full structural relaxation, and in the case of structures with a phase interface, the relaxation of the atomic positions was performed. From the minimum total energies of the individual phases, the heats of formation of phases with a phase interface expressed with respect to the standard states of pure elements and the heats of formation of diffusive interfaces expressed with respect to the non-diffusive interface were calculated.
