Abstract:

Tato práce zkoumá Amiše a stereotypy, které se jich týkají a které lze nalézt na internetu. První část práce je věnována poskytnutí obecných informací ohledně Amišů a vysvětlení některých pojmů, které se vztahují k tématu. Dále se pak práce soustředí na společnost a její pohled na Amiše, zatímco analyzuje komentáře nalezené na sociálních sítích na internetu. Tato analýza poukazuje na stereotypy, na které se dá pravděpodobně narazit, když se zkoumá určitá skupina lidí. Následně se poslední část práce věnuje srovnání stereotypů s informacemi ohledně života Amišů nalezených ve spolehlivé sekundární literatuře. Práce se snaží ukázat, jak moc lidé ví o Amiších a jak dalece spoléhají na stereotypy, které jsou rozšířené ve společnosti.

Abstract:

The thesis focuses on Amish and stereotypes related to them that occur on the Internet. The first part of the thesis gives general information on Amish and explains terms connected to the topic. Then it focuses on society and its views of Amish while analyzing comments found on social networks on the Internet. This analysis points out stereotypes that are likely to be found when one studies a distinct group of people. Subsequently, the last part of the thesis compares the stereotypes with information on Amish life found in reliable secondary literature. The thesis tries to show how much people know about Amish and how much they rely on stereotypes shared in the society.
