The Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on Selected Tourism Entities in the Jihlava Region

Abstract:

ŠPEJTKOVÁ, Viktorie. Dopad pandemie COVID-19 na vybrané subjekty cestovního ruchu na Jihlavsku. [Bakalářská práce] University College Prague – Vysoká škola mezinárodních vztahů a Vysoká škola hotelová a ekonomická, Praha: 2024. 52 stran. Tato bakalářská práce se důkladně zabývá dopady pandemie COVID-19 na vybrané subjekty cestovního ruchu v regionu Jihlavsko. Pandemie, která propukla v první polovině roku 2020, způsobila zásadní změny ve zdravotnictví, ekonomice a každodenním životě lidí po celém světě. Cestovní ruch jako klíčový segment ekonomiky byl vážně postižen opatřeními jako je uzavření hranic, omezení cestování a zavření hotelů, restaurací a turistických atrakcí. Zpomalení cestovního ruchu mělo významné dopady na celou řadu subjektů včetně ubytovacích zařízení, restaurací, turistických atrakcí a dalších služeb spojených s cestovním ruchem. Provozovatelé těchto subjektů se ocitli v obtížné situaci, kdy museli čelit poklesu poptávky a dočasnému uzavření svých podniků. Současně se objevily nové výzvy a příležitosti, jako je podpora regionálního cestovního ruchu a digitalizace služeb. Tato práce se zaměřuje na konkrétní dopady na ubytovací a stravovací segmenty v regionu Jihlavsko. Pro analýzu byla provedena řada rozhovorů s relevantními subjekty v cestovním ruchu. Výběr subjektů byl založen na jejich geografické poloze a diverzitě v podnikání, aby byl zajištěn komplexní pohled na problematiku. Podrobně budou zkoumány otázky týkající se dopadů pandemie na provoz daných zařízení a restaurací v regionu Jihlavsko. Bude se analyzovat i to, zda využili státní podpory a jak se po virovém období zotavují. Práce také navrhne strategie pro obnovu provozu daných podniků v regionu po skončení pandemie. Strategie, jako je například zvýšení atraktivity podporou místní gastronomie s využitím lokálních surovin a zdokonalením online marketingu ubytovacích zařízení.

This bachelor's thesis extensively examines the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on selected tourism entities in the Jihlavsko region. The pandemic, which erupted in the first half of 2020, brought about significant changes in healthcare, the economy, and people's daily lives worldwide. Tourism, as a key economic segment, was severely affected by measures such as border closures, travel restrictions, and the closure of hotels, restaurants, and tourist attractions. The slowdown in tourism had significant repercussions on a wide range of entities, including accommodation facilities, restaurants, tourist attractions, and other services related to tourism. Operators of these entities found themselves in a challenging situation, facing a decline in demand and temporary closures of their businesses. At the same time, new challenges and opportunities emerged, such as supporting regional tourism and digitalizing services. This thesis focuses on the specific impacts on the accommodation and catering sectors in the Jihlavsko region. For the analysis, a series of interviews were conducted with relevant entities in the tourism sector. The selection of entities was based on their geographical location and business diversity to ensure a comprehensive view of the issue. The thesis will thoroughly investigate issues related to the pandemic's impact on the operations of these facilities and restaurants in the Jihlavsko region. It will analyze whether they have benefited from government support and how they are recovering after the viral period. Strategies such as increasing attractiveness by promoting local gastronomy using local ingredients and improving the online marketing of accommodation facilities.
