Designing English Grammar Exercises in LMS Moodle

Abstract:

The Bachelor thesis presents adjectives, divides them into distinct categories, examines them in terms of morphology and syntax and provides examples of their usage. The chapters discuss types of adjectives, gradable, non-gradable, and both gradable and non-gradable adjectives and their usage, the comparison of adjectives in terms of both regular and irregular adjectives; it next focuses on participle adjectives, the difference between present and past participles adjectives and their distinction from verb participles. Furthermore, LMS Moodle and grammar exercises are presented in the following chapters to introduce the utilised test items in the practical part. The practical part focuses on designing English grammar exercises that cover topics of the adjectives discussed in the theoretical part. Two exercises covering adjectives are designed for each chapter. The exercises are created in the LMS Moodle course, where they are called quiz activities. They help students practice adjectives and fully comprehend the discussed chapters of this thesis. Not only do the activities practise students' acquired knowledge, but most also explain the reason for the correctness or incorrectness of the answers. The exercises are compared in terms of their difficulty for students and creators. The thesis primarily helps English language learners understand selected topics of adjectives.

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce představí přídavná jména, rozdělí je do jednotlivých kategorií, prozkoumá je z hlediska morfologie a syntaxe a uvede příklady jejich užití. Kapitoly pojednávají o typech přídavných jmen, o stupňovatelných, nestupňovatelných a stupňovatelných i nestupňovatelných přídavných jménech a jejich užití, o srovnání přídavných jmen z hlediska pravidelných i nepravidelných přídavných jmen. Dále se zaměřuje na příčestí přídavných jmen, na rozdíl mezi příčestími přídavných jmen přítomných a minulých a na jejich odlišení od příčestí slovesných. V následujících kapitolách jsou dále představeny LMS Moodle a gramatická cvičení, která čtenáře seznamují s použitými testovými položkami v praktické části. Praktická část je zaměřena na návrh cvičení z anglické gramatiky, která zahrnují témata přídavných jmen probíraná v teoretické části. Ke každé kapitole jsou navržena dvě cvičení týkající se přídavných jmen. Cvičení jsou vytvořena v kurzu LMS Moodle, kde jsou nazvána testové úlohy. Cvičení studentům pomáhají procvičovat přídavná jména a plně pochopit probírané kapitoly této práce. Tyto úlohy nejen procvičují získané znalosti studentů, ale většinou také vysvětlují důvod správnosti či nesprávnosti odpovědí. Cvičení jsou porovnávána z hlediska obtížnosti pro studenty a tvůrce. Tato práce pomáhá především studentům anglického jazyka pochopit vybraná témata přídavných jmen.
