Escape from collusion on market with differentiated product

Abstract:

Cílem této práce je popsání některých základních faktorů ovlivňujících stabilitu dohody o nekalé spolupráci, neboli také koluzi. Koluze, neboli také nekalá spolupráce vzniká pouze tehdy, pokud existují podmínky vhodné pro její vznik, ale hlavně pokud z ní plyne zisk firmám angažujícím se v této spolupráci. Firmy ovšem nepřestávají analyzovat trh uzavřením dohody. Stále sledují vlastní cíle a jejich chování se vždy ubírá tím směrem, kde by měl být nejvyšší zisk. Popíšeme si, jak zjistit výši zisku na oligopolním trhu podle Cournotova či Bertrandova modelu a o kolik se zvětší při dohodě o spolupráci maximalizující společný zisk. Veliký vliv na případný únik z koluze má také diferenciace produktu a předem domluvené tresty za porušení spolupráce, které by měli dlouhodobě vyvážit výši jednorázového zisku z porušení dohody. Pomocí velmi jednoduchého nástroje (úrokové míry) jsme schopni vyjádřit změnu stability nekalé spolupráce pod vlivem různých faktorů.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is to describe few basic elements, which influence stability of a collusion agreement. Collusion can rise only when, there are the right conditions for its existence, but mainly, when there is some profit to be gained by the firms, which are participating in it. However firms do not stop analyzing the market when they agree to the terms of the collusion. They are still watching their own goals and their behaviour, is changed, in order to gain higher profit. We will describe, how to determine amount of profit on an oligopolistic market under Cournot and Bertrand model and how does a cooperation agreement to maximise joint profits increases this amount. Great influence on potential escape from collusion holds product differentiation and previously agreed upon punishments for violations of the cooperation, which should in long term outweigh the one-time profit connected to violation of the agreement. By using a very simple instrument (interest rate) we can express the change in the stability of collusion under the influence of various factors.
