Diminished villages in the area of dam Želivka

Abstract:

Autor ve své diplomové práci podal komplexní pohled na zaniklé obce v oblasti přehrady Želivka. Využil poznatky, které získal studiem oborů zeměpis a dějepis na Univerzitě J. E. Purkyně v Ústí nad Labem. V osmi kapitolách se postupně zabývá geografickou charakteristikou regionu, uvádí základní údaje o řece Želivce. Čtenář zde nalezne i poučení o výstavbě vodního díla na ní. Podnět k rozsáhlé stavbě dal nedostatek pitné vody. Největší část je věnovaná výkladu o všech zaniklých obcích a komunikacích, v příloze najdeme podrobné údaje o městech Zahrádka a Dolní Kralovice. Zajímavé je porovnání přehradní nádrže Želivka se situací na jiných vybraných přehradách v Čechách. Autor se netají tím, že i když má vodní dílo ohromný význam (čerpá z něj pitnou vodu Praha i některá města v okolí), pro obyvatele žijící v jeho blízkosti velké výhody nepřineslo. Mnoho lidí muselo opustit své domovy, byla zničena krásná příroda. Protože o dané problematice žádná ucelená publikace dosud nepojednává, z práce můžou čerpat informace muzea, knihovny, školy i městské úřady. Diplomovou práci doplňují tabulky, grafy, mapky a fotografie.

Abstract:

In his diploma work the author provides a comprehensive view of the extinct towns and villages in the area of the Želivka dam. He has used knowledge acquired during his studies of geography and history at the University of J.E. Purkyně in Ústí nad Labem. In eight chapters he gradually deals with the geographic characteristic of the region and mentions the principal data of the Želivka river. Readers will also find information about the construction of the dam on this river here. The construction of this large structure was stimulated by shortage of drinking water. The largest part is devoted to a description of all the extinct towns, villages and roads; in an annex you will find detailed data of the towns of Zahrádka and Dolní Kralovice. There is an interesting comparison of the Želivka dam with the situation of other selected dams in the Czech Republic. The author avows that although the dam is of enormous significance (it supplies Prague and some other towns in the surroundings with drinking water) it did not bring many benefits to the people living in its surroundings. Many people had to leave their homes, beautiful countryside was destroyed. Since no comprehensive publication has dealt with this topic so far, museums, libraries, schools as well as municipal offices may draw information from this work. The diploma work is supplemented with tables, charts, maps and photographs.
