Analysis of imperfect competition on the telecommunications market

Abstract:

Hlavním cílem této diplomové práce je prozkoumat strukturu a postavení jednotlivých subjektů na českém telekomunikačním trhu a vztahů mezi nimi. Nejprve se práce věnuje podstatě tržního mechanismu a významu státních intervencí do fungování trhu. Dále je probrána hospodářská soutěž a druhy konkurence se zaměřením na formy konkurence nedokonalé. Práce se také věnuje správě trhu Českým telekomunikačním úřadem a řešení antimonopolní politiky Úřadem pro ochranu hospodářské soutěže. Následně je zkoumán vývoj parametrů nabízených služeb v uplynulých letech u vybraných soutěžitelů - jak reagovali na sebe navzájem, na vývoj trhu, na zavádění inovací a jak to ovlivňovalo jejich cenotvorbu a expanze do příbuzných odvětví. Následně je odpovězeno na výzkumné otázky a posouzeno, nejblíže jakému druhu konkurence zjištěné poznatky odpovídají na základě projevovaných aspektů.V poslední části práce jsou interpretovány výsledky průzkumu veřejného mínění zabývajícího se zákaznickou spokojeností respondentů se zkoumanými aspekty trhu na základě jejich příslušnosti k jednotlivým subjektům poskytujícím telekomunikační služby. Analýza kontingenční závislosti mezi odpověďmi ukazuje, které faktory nejvíce ovlivňují názory zákazníků a jejich jednání.

Abstract:

The main goal of this thesis is to explore the structure and position of individual entities on the Czech telecommunications market and the relationships between them. First, the thesis deals with the nature of the market mechanism and the importance of state intervention in the functioning of the market. Furthermore, competition and types of competition are discussed, focusing on imperfect forms of competition. The thesis also deals with market management by the Czech Telecommunication Office and the antitrust policy solution by the Office for the Protection of Competition.Subsequently is examined the development of parameters of offered services of selected competitors in the past years - how they reacted on each other, on the market development, on the introduction of innovations and how it influenced their pricing and expansion into related industries. Subsequently, the research questions are answered and it is judged closest to what kind of competition the findings correspond to on the basis of manifested aspects.The last part of the thesis interprets the results of a public opinion survey dealing with the customer satisfaction of respondents with the examined aspects of the market based on their affiliation to individual entities providing telecommunication services. The analysis of the contingency between responses shows which factors are the most influential in regards to the customers' opinions and behaviour.
