Payment and Guarantee Instruments in international trade

Abstract:

The Diploma Thesis deals with payment and guarantee instruments in international trade. The first chapter is devoted to defining the very concept of payments, as well as its legislative form. Furthermore, attention is drawn to the classification of payments according to various criteria and the system of international payments. It specifies the chosen instruments of international payments as non-documentary payments, letter of credit, documentary collection, bank guarantees, promissory notes and checks. These payment and guarantee instruments are described in detail in relation to their processing, classification, list of documents needed to realize the various banking operations, as well as to their advantages and disadvantages .The end of the first chapter provides an overall summary of the theoretical knowledge acquired by treating this part of the thesis. The second chapter of the thesis is composed of three sub-chapters, each of them representing a separate unit. The first subchapter analyzes the range of products and implementation of a documentary credit in three bank institutions operating on the territory of the Slovak Republic - Tatra banka, a.s., Všeobecná úverová banka, a.s., and Československá úverová banka, a.s. The process of documentary collection as well as that of bank guarantee is described a similar manner. Each of these sub-chapters also highlight the advantages and disadvantages of specific credit and guarantee instruments and the tariff in selected banks. On Based on the information in the second chapter, a list of formulations and recommendations for subjects of international trade is compiled, representing the third and final part of the thesis.

Abstract:

Diplomová práca sa zaoberá platobnými a zabezpečovacími inštrumentmi v medzinárodnom platobnom styku. Prvá kapitola je venovaná vymedzeniu samotného pojmu platobný styk, ako aj jeho legislatívnej úprave. Ďalej je upriamená pozornosť na klasifikáciu platobného styku podľa rôznych kritérií ako aj systému medzinárodného platobného styku. Podrobnejšie špecifikuje vybrané nástroje medzinárodného platobného styku ako nedokumentárne platby, dokumentárny akreditív, dokumentárne inkaso, banková záruka, zmenky a šeky. Pri uvedených platobných a zabezpečovacích nástrojoch je detailnejšie popísaný ich priebeh, členenie, zoznam dokumentov potrebných k zrealizovaniu jednotlivých bankových operácií, ako aj ich výhody a nevýhody. Záver prvej kapitoly tvorí celkový súhrn nadobudnutých teoretických poznatkov získaných spracovaním tejto časti práce. Druhá kapitola práce je tvorená tromi podkapitolami, pričom každá z nich tvorí samostatný celok. Prvá podkapitola analyzuje rozsah produktov a realizáciu dokumentárneho akreditívu v troch bankových inštitúciách s pôsobnosťou na území Slovenskej republiky – Tatra banka, a.s., Všeobecná úverová banka, a.s. a Československá úverová banka, a.s.. Obdobne je popísaný aj priebeh dokumentárneho inkasa ako aj bankovej záruky . V každej z uvedených podkapitol sú zároveň vyzdvihnuté klady a zápory konkrétnych platobných a zabezpečovacích inštrumentov ako aj sadzobníky poplatkov vo vybraných bankách. Na základe získaných informácií uvedených v druhej kapitole, sme zostavili zoznam formulácií a odporúčaní pre subjekty zahraničného obchodu, čo tvorí tretiu, záverečnú časť diplomovej práce.
