Analysis of Brno´s potential as a congress tourism destination

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce pojednává o kongresovém cestovním ruchu v České republice a Polsku. Cílem práce je analyzovat předpoklady Brna pro rozvoj tohoto odvětví, a na základě komparace s Vratislaví stanovit silné a slabé stránky města a navrhnout možná zlepšení. První dvě kapitoly práce jsou čistě teoretické a vysvětlují teorii nezbytnou pro snadné porozumění dalším kapitolám. V úvodu první kapitoly jsou vysvětleny pojmy kongresový cestovní ruch a MICE segment. Dále jsou zde popsány efekty, kongresového cestovního ruchu a mezinárodní organizace z tohoto odvětví. Druhá kapitola se zabývá teorií konkurenceschopnosti. Konkurenceschopnost je zde definována jak obecně, tak i v oblasti cestovního ruchu. V této části jsou zmíněné metody měření konkurenceschopnosti v cestovním ruchu a uvedeny předpoklady pro rozvoj kongresového cestovního ruchu navrhované českými i zahraničními autory. Na závěr této kapitoly jsou zvoleny a popsány faktory pro porovnávání v rámci této práce. Třetí a čtvrtá kapitola jsou totožné svou strukturou, neboť v obou jsou analyzovány stejné zvolené předpoklady v konkrétní lokalitě. V případě třetí kapitoly se jedná o Brno, ve čtvrté kapitole je zkoumána Vratislav. Poslední kapitola na základě komparace hodnotí silné a slabé stránky Brna a navrhuje možná zlepšení do budoucna. Na základě této komparace se Brno ukázalo být v mnoha faktorech konkurenceschopné na mezinárodní úrovni. Pro rozvoj tohoto odvětví je však nezbytné zajistit snažší dostupnost města v rámci Evropy a vylepšit propagace destinace.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with congress tourism in the Czech Republic and Poland. The aim of this thesis is to analyze prerequisites of the city of Brno in that field and based on the comparison with polish Wroclaw define its strengths, weaknesses and propose possible improvements. The first two chapters of this work are purely theoretical. They explain the basic terms needed to clearly understand rest of the work. At the beginning of the first chapters, the terms tourism and congress tourism are explained. Later the effect of this industry is mentioned as well as the most important international associations in the field. The second chapters deal with the theory of competitiveness. First competitiveness is defined in general, later in the field of tourism. In this part, the methods of measuring a competitiveness in tourism are mentioned as well. At the end of the second chapter, the prerequisites for congress tourism are mentioned. In third and fourth chapters, the chosen prerequisites are analyzed in both destinations. The last chapter evaluates Brno´s strengths and weaknesses based on the comparison with Wroclaw. Brno seems to be competitive on the international level in many factors. However, for the future development of MICE industry in the city, its necessary to arrange accessibility of the city from destinations all over Europe and improve the city´s promotion.
