Is the Czech Republic dynamically efficient?

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce zkoumá, zda je Česká republika dynamicky efektivní z pohledu teorie dynamické efektivnosti v Solowově modelu. Dále se práce zabývá implikacemi dynamické efektivnosti, zejména s ohledem na penzijní systém a fiskální deficity, odhadem Solowova modelu a následným vyhodnocením jeho schopnosti vysvětlit mezinárodní rozdíly v HDP. Nejprve jsou prezentovány teoretické základy Solowova modelu a zlatého pravidla, ze kterého vychází koncept dynamické efektivnosti. Následně jsou shrnuty dosavadní poznatky o dynamické efektivnosti a jsou rozebrána témata související s dynamickou efektivností. Testování dynamické efektivnosti české ekonomiky je provedeno třemi způsoby – pomocí teorie Solowova modelu a metodami v Abel et al. (1989) a Barbie et al. (2004). První dva testy dynamické efektivnosti prokazují dynamickou efektivnost České republiky v období 1993–2021. Podle třetího testu, který se zaměřuje na období 2000–2019, je také prokázána dynamická efektivnost České republiky. Na základě těchto výsledků, teorie dynamické efektivnosti a současných fiskálních deficitů lze v budoucnosti očekávat zvýšení daňové zátěže občanů České republiky. Odhad Solowova modelu je proveden podle článku Mankiw et al. (1992) a výsledný odhadnutý model vysvětluje více než polovinu mezinárodních rozdílů v HDP.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis analyzes whether the Czech Republic is dynamically efficient from the perspective of the dynamic efficiency theory in the Solow model. Furthermore, the thesis deals with the implications of dynamic efficiency, particularly with regard to the pension system and fiscal deficits, estimates the Solow model and subsequently evaluates its ability to explain international differences in GDP. First, the theoretical foundations of the Solow model and the golden rule, from which the concept of dynamic efficiency arises, are presented. Subsequently, previous knowledge of dynamic efficiency is summarized and topics related to dynamic efficiency are discussed. Testing the dynamic efficiency of the Czech economy is performed in three ways – based on the theoretical foundations of the Solow model and using methodology of Abel et al. (1989) and Barbie et al. (2004). The first two tests demonstrate the dynamic efficiency of the Czech Republic in the period 1993–2021. The dynamic efficiency of Czech Republic is also proven by the third test, which is focused on the period 2000–2019. Based on these results, the theory of dynamic efficiency and current fiscal deficits, an increase in the tax burden of citizens of the Czech Republic can be expected in the future. The estimation of the Solow model is performed according to the paper by Mankiw et al. (1992) and the resulting estimated model explains more than half of the international differences in GDP.
