Mothers as agents sexual socialization in the family

Abstract:

Hlavní cíl práce směřuje ke zjištění toho, jak matky vnímají svoje působení na sexuální socializaci svých dětí. Matku vnímám jako aktéra sexuální socializace vlastních dětí, která předává dětem interpersonální sexuální scénář, který ovlivňuje sexualitu dětí. Předpokladem práce s oporou o sociální konstruktivismus je fakt, že sexualita je nejen biologicky podmíněna, ale je též sociálně konstruována (Fafejta, 2004; Katrňák, 1999; Fafejta, 2016). Z toho vyplývá, že ji lze výchovným působením ovlivňovat. Podstatnou pro práce je teorie sexuálních scénářů, která odkazuje právě k sociálními konstruktivismu. Druhým předpokladem je, že jedním ze základních prostředí, kde bývá ovlivňována sexualita, je rodina (Kraus, 2008; Procházka, 2012). Metodologický postup je inspirován postupy zakotvené teorie. Zvolený design odpovídá konstruktivistické linii zakotvené teorie, která je reprezentována Charmazovou (2006). Metodou sběru dat byl polostrukturovaný rozhovor. Celkem bylo k analýze dat využito třicet jedna rozhovorů, a to od 26 participantek. Data byla sbírána ve čtyřech fázích v období 2011-2014 s ohledem na postup průběžné analýzy dat. Základním kritériem při výběru vzorku byl fakt, že matka má alespoň jedno dítě ve věku 12-18 roků. V práci je mimo jiné ukázáno, jaké obsahy v podobě přímého interpersonálního scénáře matek bývají dětem předávány. Jedná se o dva typy scénáře: „Chraň (se) a sexuálně žij“ a „Vyber si, poznávej a sexuálně žij“. V obou těchto interpersonálních scénářů se odráží postmoderní kulturní scénáře. Ukazuje se tak, že kultura hraje nezastupitelnou roli. Interpersonální scénáře jsou ovlivněny též scénářem rodinným, který matky obdržely od svých rodičů. Orientační rodina zanechává u matek nesmazatelné rodinné dědictví. Dizertační práce se věnuje i nepřímému interpersonálnímu scénáři, který odkazuje k nezáměrnému jednání matek, které na úrovni vzoru působí na sexuální socializaci dětí. Toto jednání matek je socializováno skrze rodinnou sexuální kulturu. Jedná se o jednání matek, které bývá vnějšímu světu často skryto a které ani matky samotné nejsou často schopné vnímat jako součást jejich socializačního působení na děti. Způsob předávání výše uvedených přímých interpersonálních scénářů závisí na sexuálně socializačním typu matky. Jedná se o tyto čtyři typy: ochránkyně, důvěrnice, čekatelka a alibistka, které se mezi sebou liší ve způsobu vnímání vlastní sexuální socializace, představách o vlastním výchovném působení a roli rodiny při něm. Liší se i akcentací impulsů pro zahájení sdělování interpersonálního scénáře a přístupem k bariérám přenosu tohoto scénáře. Každý z typů specifickým způsobem vnímá právě svoje působení při sexuální socializaci dětí. Matky záměrně působí na sexuální socializaci svých dětí zejména z důvodu zisku. Matky chtějí minimalizovat rizika, která mohou vyvstat z absence jejich záměrného působení – pohlavní nemoci dětí, neplánované těhotenství apod. Zároveň svým záměrným jednáním chtějí dětem zvýšit šanci na prožitky – spokojený partnerský život, zážitek při sexuálním styku atd. Tato zjištění nás dovádí k úvahám nad paralelami se společností rizika, o které mluví Beck (Šubrt, 2008) a společností prožitku, kterou charakterizoval Schulze (Šubrt, 2008).

Abstract:

The main aim of the thesis is to find out how mothers perceive their influence on the sexual socialization of their children. I see the mother as an agent of sexual socialization of her children, who gives children an interpersonal sexual scenario that affects children's sexuality. The prerequisite for working with social constructivism as a framework is the fact that sexuality is not only biologically conditioned but it is also socially constructed (Fafejta, 2004; Katrňák, 1999; Fafejta, 2016). This implies that it can be influenced by educational activity. Essential for this thesis is the theory of sexual scenarios, which refers to social constructivism. The second assumption is that one of the basic environments where sexuality is affected is the family (Kraus, 2008, Procházka, 2012). The methodological approach is inspired by the grounded theory. The chosen design corresponds to a constructivist line of anchored theory, which is represented by Charmaz (2006). A semi-structured interview was chosen as a method for collecting data. Altogether, thirty-one interviews were realized to collect and analyze data from 26 participants. The data were collected in four phases over the period 2011-2014 with a consideration of later progressive data analysis. The basic inclusion criterion for sampling was the fact that the mother had at least one child aged 12-18 years. The results show, among other things, what content in the form of direct interpersonal mothers' scenarios are usually passed on to children. There are two types of scenarios: "Protect yourself and live sexually "and "Choose, explore and live sexually". Both these interpersonal scenarios reflect postmodern cultural scenarios. It turns out that culture plays an irreplaceable role in this context. Interpersonal scenarios are also affected by the family scenarios that mothers had received from their parents. The mother´s family leaves an indelible family heritage for the mother. The dissertation also deals with the indirect interpersonal scenario, which refers to the unintentional behavior of mothers who as a model affect the sexual socialization of children. This motherly behavior is socialized through family sexual culture. These are mothers' actions that are often hidden from the outside world and which even mothers are often unable to perceive as part of their socializing effect on children. The method of passing the above-mentioned direct interpersonal scenarios depends on the type of sexually socializing method mother uses. These are the four types: protector, confidant, expectant and alibist, which differ in the way mothers perceive their own sexual socialization, their own educational attitudes, and the role of the family in it. The types also differ in impulses for communicating the interpersonal scenarios and in approach towards barriers of scenario transfer. Each of these types specifically perceives their sexual encounter with children. Mother intentionally affects the sexual socialization of her children, especially due to risk. Mothers want to minimize the risks that may arise from the absence of their intentional action - STDs, unplanned pregnancies, etc. At the same time, their intentional actions want to increase their chances of experiences such as happy love life, good first a sexual experience, etc. These findings lead us to think about parallels between Beck´s risk society (Šubrt, 2008) and the society based on experience characterized by Schulze (Šubrt, 2008).
