Allied air Raids on Brno 1944-1945

Abstract:

Brno bylo v druhé polovině roku 1944 a na začátku roku 1945 vystaveno, jako mnohá jiná města na Moravě, leteckým útokům. K prvnímu z nich došlo 25.8.1944 a další útoky následovaly 11.10., 20.11, 19.12.1944 a v dubnu 1945. Těmito nálety bylo Brno značně postiženo a patřilo k nejvíce poškozeným městům na území Moravy. Nálety uskutečňovalo jak americké strategické letectvo (15. letecká armáda USAAF), tak sovětské taktické letecké síly (5. letecká armáda VVS). Hlavními cíli amerického bombardování se staly brněnské hlavní nádraží, Zbrojovka Brno, Zetor a letiště v Brně-Slatině. Sovětské letouny útočily především na střed města. Nálety amerického letectva byly nejvíce zasaženy centrum města, Komárov, Líšeň, Slatinu, Staré Brno, Veveří, Zábrdovice a Židenice. Nálety sovětských leteckých sil postihly nejvíce centrum města, Černovice, Juliánov, Komárov, Pisárky, Zábrdovice a Židenice. Nálety zničily celkem 1 278 domů a dalších 12 439 poškodily. Americké a sovětské bomby zabily nejméně 1 200 Brňanů.

Abstract:

Brno was attacked by several air raids, as a lot of citties in Moravia, during second half 1944 and the beginning 1945. The first raid came in 25.8.1944 and the others in 11.10.,20.11., 19.12.1944 and in April 1945. Brno was seriously hit by the air raids and belongs to most seriously damaged citties in Moravia. The air raids were practised by American strategical air force (15th USAF) as well as Russian tactical air force (5th Air Army VVS). The American air raids were mostly concentrate on the main railway station, Zbrojovka Brno, Zetor and the airport in Slatina. By the air raids of Soviet tactical air force were hit in the first row the centre of town, Černovice, Juliánov, Komárov, Pisárky, Zábrdovice and Židenice during the battle of Brno. During the allied air raids were killed 1 200 persons. The American and Soviet air raids destroyed 1 278 houses in Brno. Besides were damaged 12 439 buildings in the town.
